Commonality between smoke/long crank/knock???

My truck (06) never had the long crank issue until the dealer reflashed for white smoke at startup (still there after reflash), and the "knock/tick". I thought it was just me being paranoid with the NEW noises I was hearing with this truck compared to my older one (03)... ... UNTIL I was at a store yesterday and a guy had left his truck idling two spaces down from mine. I was astonished that I couldn't hardly hear it run. He backed out just as I was coming out of the store and there was a TOTAL difference between the sound his made and mine. Mine sounds like you put a bunch of marbles in an aluminum can and started shaking it!!



It got me to thinking... ... ... . Is there any correlation between the guys who have the tick/knock noise and long crank/white smoke issues??? If there is... ... ..... wouldn't it point to injectors??? (I'm not a mechanic)



I'll be going back to the dealer at around 11k and I will report the SAME problems again... ... White smoke, knock/tick... ... . but now after the reflash I have the long crank issue which is SOOOO embarassing!!!



I'll be the first... ..... anyone else with the "knock" have the other issues also???

My 06 has 3500 mi thats getting louder and has the knock/tick and starts quick just not as quick as the 12valve did but i dont mind its begining to sound like my 12 valve did. I never want the dealer to mess with it. They will never see it unless its dead.

Wish I could sell back my 3-36k warranty to D. C and use the money for more stuff from genos garage

When the tech reflashed mine, he asked if I had the long crank issue and I said NO. Only after the reflash did my truck start taking long to start. The weird part is that it does it so infrequent and random it is hard to pinpoint something that might cause it.

Sounds crazy, but the temps dropped over the last few days and when it got colder, the knock got quieter. Temps are coming up and so is the rattle can!! I cannot figure this out... ... ... still getting some white smoke on startup occasionally... ... . Fuel Filter????????
