I too think gary's #'s are a little on the low side. But i think it is the dyno he was on. Doesn't a stock eth usually run about 215 rear wheel hp??? My truck is all stock and at 7k miles on the clock seems to me like it has at least 10% more power than when i bought it. Seat of the pants ometer mind you. I know i have picked up about 2 MPG since new. My truck just keeps running better with more miles, maybe gary's truck needs a little more break in.

Well, certainly there are variations in dynos - probably more between the Mustang dynos and the more common (brain fade) Dynosomthingorother...

The Mustang supposedly places an actual load on the vehicle under test, while the other type is strictly a measure of speed in accellerating a fixed rotational weight - dunno how that affects final numbers, but supposedly, the Mustang is more accurate on truck like ours - which is probably why Imlers Diesel Performance uses that type...

NOW, as to my trucks ratings, all I can say, is regardless of readings it was better than anything else there up til the time I left - and that included 3 '02 Fords (best of 261/608) with chips, exhaust and injector mods, and a '99 (286/654) and '00 Ford (255/589) with pretty much the whole 9 yards of add-ons, propane, injectors, Banks stuff and intake mods - one of them was reportedly active in sled pulls... NOW, if MINE was/is considered low on power, just think how THEY must feel!:p :p

One fella in a stock '96 Dodge got 131 HP and 279 TQ - and another guy with a 96 and injectors, exhaust and a few other goodies (I think he mentioned some turbo mods), got 246 HP and 547 TQ... All for reference...

My turn...

01. 5 HO AFE Mega Cannon, Edge EZ, 275's, stock HX35, Bully Dog 4" turbo to tail = 310hp@60mph and 990ft lbs@44mph with 3. 54 gears and stock 26575R16 on a BD Mustang dyno at appx. 1100ft above sea level with an ambient outside temp of 45 deg. F

I am sure my hp is ballpark, but can we all agree my torque is a little high? I have the sheet, but no way to post. BTW, my stock clutch hates me in 5th and 6th when I get into it hard at low rpms on the street. (SBC on the way) Funny though, it never slipped on the dyno.

But we all know that DD has the ONLY accurate dyno, and it's a Dynojet. ;) :p

Which is exactly my point in maintaining perspective in setting *realistic* PERSONAL goals in power increases - sure, I can easily vastly increase my RWHP by adding injectors for about $600 - but had dern sure ALSO budget ANOTHER $1000+ for clutch updates, $500-$1000 for a "proper" exhaust system to best employ that HP level, as well as other potential "needs" that will surely follow with the additional power - that *I* really don't need, and can't use in typical operation anyway!

Sorta like swatting gnats with a sledgehammer!

I'm not knocking those who continue to search of more power - and each has their own "pain threshold" - but so far, I'm pretty happy with what MY $600 bought me - especially as compared to what $3000+ bought some of those OTHER fellas...

:p ;) :D

As far as the "no-slip" on the dyno - undoubtedly, the dyno doesn't place quite the same load and grip on the drivetrain as the streets do... ;) :D

I completely agree with you Gary. It is all personal preference when it comes to spending money. And yes, many arent aware of the cascade effect of bigger this or more that. But, thats why we're all here, to help each other. :)

I know a dyno that loads you harder than the street does :) . The Superflow at Waterous in Calgary where we have held 2 of our previous dyno meets is a tough cookie indeedie..... IIRC Dee Rawson told me he saw 3 or 4 lbs. more boost on there than he ever had before. This is the infamous Dyno From Hell that stalled 2 of the hi-horse trucks (Dee's and Jason Burton's) dead at WOT  due to a programming glitch-when it saw wheelspeed in excess of 80 mph (or thereabouts-can't remember the exact # but it was close to there) it figured the truck was running away so it applied 100% load to the roller! Keep in mind it was set up for heavy trucks-not our pickups. Either way, those 2 were pretty lucky to drive away with no damage.....

It's a workout-I chickened out of one of my runs in July because I figured I didn't need the extra wear and tear.

Anyways, on this dyno I laid down 298hp in December with an ETH/DEE with 275's and an EZ on winter fuel... . and 344 in July with 275's and a DragCOMP set to 5x5 on a warmish morning. Will try to get back there with the current setup just for grins-BD2's, DragCOMP, Piers Super 40 and 4" exh. tip to tail-oh yeah and my Scotty II. It sucks... ... ... . cool air :) .

Sorry Gary-no torque #'s... ... in December they were just taking snapshot #'s for peak horsepower so the only torque # recorded was at that peak horsepower RPM-hardly relevant to anything. And in July they didn't have a RPM pickup setup-they were supposed to have a bunch of fancy interfaces for the 24 valve trucks that never materialized and to be honest I don't know what happened to the optical pickups they used on us in December... .
