I installed a comp on my 2001 ETH recently and now I hear that the Comp advances the timing TOO much on the ETH's and can burn up an engine even if the EGT's are below safe conditions while towing. How true is this? I have only towed once with the box so far and it was a good size grade with my 8000 lb trailer. I was set at level 2 and it towed at 55 mph steady. Before the AFE and Comp box, it was around 40 to 45 mph.

I just installed my EDM Mach 1. 5's and was only able to test drive a really short distance. I tried it with the box on 5x5 and completely off (no trailer). Lots of diesel dust at 5x5! Can't really feel the injector difference with the box on. Probably the slipping clutch syndrome. I can't tell if it's slipping because I'm trying to watch EGT gauge, shifting, rear mirror smoke check, cops, listening to engine RPMs, etc, etc. Should I just tow with the box off, to play it safe and let the injectors get me up the hill faster?

I have been towing with my box off for sometime. Although the injectors I have move alot of fuel, I am just too afraid to turn it on. Towing level with my truck the EGT's are at 900 to 1000 all the time on level ground. Just a tap of the go pedal and EGT's shoot right up. I am going to try to get my twin turbos done in a couple of weeks. The set I just finished up the truck sees nothing above 1300 at WOT. To bad he just tore up the 5 speed again. Anyway my suggestion is to just the box off or for the most part run it 1X3 or 2X3 if at all.

Spicey Jam, YOur running a Drag Comp which is hotter than the standard comp, correct? What horsepower are your injectors?

The Drag Comp is only different on level 5, fuels too 3200 instead of 2700 like yours. According to Patty the injectors are supposed to be 150+, at Gorends event I laid down 485hp 1205fpt.

When I had my DD2's and a timing box I had no problem towing my 27 ft inclosed hauler at all, EGT's stayed down in the 700, 800 range. I do have a bigger exhaust housing, 14cm, than the stock HX35 on a H. O. But now I really need twins, like I said I hope to have them on before the snow flies.

I've experimented. EGT's were kept more in check with box on 1x1 than just with injectors. Bout 150 degrees cooler. That was before I put in the CaTCHER. Now, no box on at all and all is well.

SpiceyJam, Does the 14cm housing really make a difference. I'm thinking about doing that and the bigger compressor wheel. Basically a Hybrid 40 that High Tech Turbo will do with my stock turbo.

The MAD CaTCHER

RCone, Catcher? Something I'm not familiar with it. What is it?

The CaTCHER is a fueling program that TDR member Marco has developed for the Cummins ECM. There is a very long thread on it on this forum. Many of the folks who have started running with it have stopped using thier fueling box. I sold my EZ & don't regret it at all. Top end power is about the same but the CaTCHER comes on so much beter right off idle it's hard to appreciate without first hand experience.
