What about Hamilton cams?

need a lot more info......

how is your rig set up????? You can't do much with the comp - if the rig is stock - without greatly getting into EGT problems... ... . do you have gauges - tell us more... .

Right the now the truck is bone stock I do have the gauges EGT,fuel pressure, trans, boost. Will be adding air cleaner and exhaust next month

What kind of power plans do you have for the truck? What year is it? Auto trans I guess, since you're putting in a trans temp gauge?

Might consider an Edge Juice/Attitude instead - all the power/adjustability of the Comp, but with the gauges built in, and auto-EGT based backdown, turbo timer, etc.

Definitely cheaper to go that route than with Comp + gauges.

Using a Comp without the pump wire tapped is about all your stock auto trans or clutch can handle. The timing advance generally helps with EGTs and the extra 50-60 HP that you can get out of the VP44 is worthwhile.

Take a few minutes and fill in your signature so we can know something about your truck.

dspoon,

I had TST injectors and an Edge Comp on my 2000 truck. It was a six-speed, 4x4, with 3. 54 differentials.

I found that I could run up to level 3 without worrying about temperatures. If I selected level 4 or 5, I had to watch the gauge.

I ran in level 1 all the time when the truck was not towing. It had plenty of power and I didn't have to concern myself about anything breaking. I got the slight boost in power and fuel mileage from the timing adjustment, which was enough.

When I was towing, I would set it up to level 3. Except for the first test runs right after I installed it I never went above level 3.

If I hadn't wrecked that truck, and if I had wanted more power, I would have had to get some more airflow. I didn't want to spend the money for a new turbocharger.

I was very happy with the increase in power that I got from my setup, even though I could have gotten more.

It would help others help you better if you created a signature with data about your truck. Go to the top of the page and select the menu item, "Discussion Forums". Then select, "User Control Panel. " On the left side of that page, you can select, "Edit Signature" and put down some information about your truck.

Good luck,

Loren

dspoon,

Since we don't know what your setup is or year model, it is hard to relay pertinent information.

However, I will tell you what I have done on my '99. My truck is a 5 spd. My first 5th wheel trailer weighed 8800#'s loaded, so gross combined was 16,400#'s. I bought the Edge EZ for my at that time stock truck. That gave me just enough HP to handle most situations and it kept my EGT's below 1200deg. even when pulling hard, since the EZ comes with a boost elbow. In 2004, we bought our current 5th wheel, and GCW went to 20K+. I chose 350RWHP for towing as a goal, and bought an entire array of performance parts, not including the Edge Comp, to get there. See my sig for reference.

The EZ failed, so I purchased an Edge Comp to replace. I have not been able to tow with the Comp on any setting, due to a miss that starts under load. I can turn the comp on level 1x1, and get much better economy (11mpg vs 9mpg w/o Comp) as long as I am on flat ground or downhill. I turn the comp off as soon as I start up a hill or to pass.

Edge has replaced the comp 4 times under warranty, and the problem is still there. I suspect that the timing is the issue, and any box that adds timing would likely do the same thing on my truck. I can disconnect the pump wire, and the problem almost goes away, occuring only under certain conditions.

I know a lot of other TDR members are using the comp with no trouble. But there are also members having the same issue I am. Do some searches, and you will find a lot of threads.

Since I have not been able to solve my problem, I can't tell you what setup will work with the comp. I can tell you that towing with the EZ, I toasted my stock clutch on level 3, and that was with the otherwise stock truck. I went with a SouthBend MU13 Con OFE, and I can highly recommend them.

Edge is good to work with, at least until they can't solve an issue. They found nothing wrong with the units I returned, except for one. I have no trouble with the unit I have, without a heavy load under acceleration.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

dspoon,

Jeff's right. You will get better assistance if you create a signature. See the last part of my previous post.

Jeff,

Since Edge is working with you on your Comp box do you suppose they would replace it with an Edge EZ? Since the EZ worked for you before maybe it will solve your problem this time.

Good luck,

Loren

Anyone using the edge comp box for towing if so how's it working for you??

I do not tow an RV type trailer, but I do haul a 3500 lb Lance cabover camper and my 15 ft aluminum boat. When hauling the Lance, I run on the # 2 setting, but I monitor my EGT's frequently on hills. I can certainly hit 1200 on # 2 setting, uphill from Phoenix to Payson Az via SR 87. I have stock HY-35 turbo, I could use more air and am considering an aftermarket turbo. I have no complaints with my Edge Comp.
