Ok the comp is installed. I am on the right pump wire I checked it 4 times. It is making a good connection. I have 13 volts inside the cab at the grey wire in the comp harness with the truck running. The comp connector looks to be in good shape and looks to be making a good connection to the comp box. I have tried both grounding to the battery and grounding to the intake.

Having said that the box functions exactly as it would if the pump wire was not hooked up. There is a noticable difference with the box on vs off. However the different levels don't seem to do anything. Every level seems the same. Level 5x5 I can hold wide open from first gear through 6th to 3k and egt will not go over 1050. Boost will hang around 29. Power feels the same as any other level.

So here is my first question. We know the comp box raises the voltage to the injection pump so it kicks out more fuel. Does anyone know what that voltage should be at a given setting? say setting 1 is normal which would be 13. 6 maybe setting 2x2 is 14. 1 and 5x5 is 16. 5. My point is I have a constant 13. 6 at that wire at all times. Does this mean the comp is bad? I asked the guy I spoke with at comp that question he didn't know what the voltage should be. He seemed to think my injection pump was bad. There has to be a way for me to check this thing with out having to send it back to Utah.

Is there something I'm missing here? All connection have been checked a few times over. I do not have a fuel pressure gauge but my lift pump was bad and I just replaced it 4 days ago. So I'm guessing pressure should be good. A friend of mine has a test gauge I am going to hook up later tonight and see what it's at.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Rob

I to have a comp, and after hooking it up, I noticed a big difference in the power on all levels. Although I do not know the voltage readings that your looking for, I would guess a couple of different things

1) Your comp is not working properly (least likely)

2) Your pump (VP44) is bad due to being ran with no fuel pressure, do to the loss of the lift pump. The question I would have is how long did it run with the bad lift pump?

Cheaper and easier to remove the comp and ship to edge, to verify its operation, or find a buddy who has one and try yours on his truck to see if it works. Rather then replacing the VP44 not knowing if its the problem (rule out smaller expenses first)

Run the ground wire directly to your battery check and make sure it is tapped ,,, give it acouple good pipe shots in 5x5 if you dont see any smoke your not tapped or the Comp is bad ,,, I would say its not your VP44.

Hope not anyways

RA I'm not sure how long it was ran like that. I drained some fuel from the canister one day when the water in fuel light cam on and it would not restart. I put in a new lift pump and it started right up.

As for the voltage.

I am looking for the voltage the comp is sending to the VP44 via the grey wire. The only reason I see that the comp taps that wire would be to increase voltage to the VP44 making it kick out more fuel faster. If this is a fact then my comp seems to be bad. I have no increased output of voltage going to my VP44 via the grey wire. It is always about 13. 6 volts. No matter what setting I am on.

Is anyone near the Cleveland Ohio area that has a comp installed on a 99 6speed. That is willing to try my box in thier truck?

Thanks Rob

check your fuel pressure

MIN 6 lb @ WOT

same as RAJohnson said

lift pump or vp44 could be bad but i would send the unit to Edge

is it a new box? and what ver. is on the box?

I'm thinking it's bad. No real smoke on any setting. At least no more than normal. I am tapped for sure and I'm on the right wire for sure. Ground is to battery.

I'm going to check pressure tomorrow, my buddy is not around tonight. Comp is brand new. Version 8. 0 Manufactured 5/10/2005.

this may sound silly but... . check the pins on the connector and make sure none of them are bent

it happened to a friend of mine

map plug is good and tight?

put a ohms meter on all the wires end to end

Good thought on the bent pin. But nope I just went out and checked. Map plug was checked a few times it is good. I'll try the ohm meter idea tomorrow I will need 2 people for that. I know the pump wire, ground and red are good I checked them.

did you set the de-fuel modes on the box... ..... set to level 5 push and hold the on off button for 3-4 seconds then it will flash make sure all 5 lights are on then turn it off and back on again

you may already know or have done it but just checking

Im on my 3rd Comp box each died of un-natural causes .

A buddy has a 99 and he ran my 2002 box for a while so you dont have to have a 99 to test

Thanks for the info. I have already done this on each level. Did not help.
