Happy Birthday!

you bet they are

Mine caught on fire and burned up, literally, while I walked down to the mail box to get the mail. Less than 2 years old ---NO MORE COMPAQ'S

I spent some time working in and with IT people administering access control systems through Compaq Prolient servers. We have 4 Prolient 9500 rack mount servers now. Their high end servers are much better than the crap they push at consumers. In larger networks, they almost use Compaq exclusively. Never had too much problem with them, other than I hate the proprietary components they use. You can't hardly even replace a screw on their boards unless you buy it from them. I won't (personally) ever buy any system that is manufactured this way. This includes HP, Dell, Gateway, Compaq... . All of them are that way. Dell had much better service than any of the rest. Compaq's service being near the worst along with Gateway. Just my . 02- but I spent alot of time working and integrating to them. My advice?? Build you own with someone who knows. They really are not difficult- can be MUCH cheaper to do yourself, and you might even learn what makes it tick and be more educated to boot.

I agree with exactly what you said Kev. Build your own and have something that is upgradeable and repairable. A friend I know in the IT industry told me that some "namebrand" computer companies will use a well-known series of motherboards only to have it use a proprietary bios that can't be changed. So you think you're buying a system with a namebrand motherboard only to find out that you can't flash the bios to upgrade it:mad:

Totally agree. Bet if you call Compaq service, they never had a problem:mad: Bought one and it's the last one. Wonder when Cummins will come out with a lap top:D Now you're talking:rolleyes:

OH Yeah- I forgot one thing- These same companies that are using Proliant servers are usually using Dell Workstations. And EVERY computer in the place is identical. That way they say they have less problems and its easier to keep track of components. They also almost always opt for the three year warranty and a three year lease. Its a no fuss no muss deal. (Stil crappy though!!):D
