It's in your owner's manual... . It's involved but not rocket science by any means. You will need to have an empty parking lot to drive in circles when you prompt it to readjust.

If you don't have a manual, maybe you can use mine if the 2001 is the same... .

Good luck

Depress both the US/METRIC and COMP/TEMP buttons at the same time until it displays CAL. Release both buttons and drive the truck on a level surface away from large metal objects in three circles in less than 48 seconds, you will need a empty parking lot for this. If this doesn't work the compass is shot or your roof has been magnetized by a magnetic sign or antenna. You will then need to have the roof demagnetized.

Try to do it when people aren't around. Most people will look at you like you are stupid or an idiot. Then again you may not care what people think. I am lucky to have a big high school parking lot that is deserted at 4PM only 2 blocks from my house for that purpose.

I did the "drive around in circle" bit and a cop stopped me right in the middle of the "adjustment". He drove away shaking his head when I offered my explanation.

Chris,I forgot to say that you will need to set the variance, this is the difference between true north and magnetic north, the lower US has 9 zones,SF is in zone 4. Hold down both buttons again until VAR is displayed, release both buttons then push US/METRIC till you get 4,push COM/TEMP to enter this number. No need to drive in circles for this one. I was in Colorado last week and thought my compass was acting up,it wasn't jiving with the compass in my head. After reading your question I realized it was because I was 2 zones over from my normal zone.
