Greetings,
I have a early '91 non-intercooled engine that is pushing oil out of the dipstick at times and has a ton of blow by out of the road draft tube. I have a known good '93 intercooled engine and was wondering if I could replace the worn out engine with it but still retain the '91's injection pump, injectors and accessories? Thanks in advance! Doug

I should think so. CPL might not be exactly the same but far as I recall ratings were and the primary difference is the intercooler and turbine housing; one of the guys here should know if pistons or anything else significant changed. In fact, that '91 turbo assembly would likely be more lively (if not more powerful outright) than the big later one. Alas I haven't two to verfify (only a '92) and compare any possible interferences in injector lines around intake tubing but IIRC all that is below intake horn anyway.

You won't be able to use injectors but everything else is the same. The CPL is slightly different for the 91 engine but it should work fine.

Your 91 has a different bowl on the Piston and takes a different spray pattern then a 93 .I would almost say run the 93 engine and find a way to inner cool it

Can't swap injectors from a 91 to a 93 anyway. The only question is if the pump CPL is correct for the later injectors.

Thanks for the replies!
IIRC, I have non-intercooled injectors in my '93 engine in my crew cab dually that I built 20 years ago now? I think I remember the copper washers having a bushing type barrel attached to them? If it turns out that I can't swap the injectors, what is the result of not intercooling the '93 engine? Excessively hot EGT's? I was always under the understanding that the intercooler was there to meet emissions originally? I'm not in need of any serious power as this is installed in an '89 Ramcharger with Dana 60's and a 518 transmission. Thanks again!

Yes and no, the CAC has effects on power levels, longevity, etc, as well as emissions. Not that there is much to emissions in that generation that can be quantified.

If you never go beyond stock power and never tow anything then you would likely not see much benefit in the CAC system, but, what the heck fun is that? Whole lot more satisfying to see 350 HP come up on the Dyno readout than a measly 150. :) Lot more fun as a daily driver also.
