Competent Ford techs?

Nuts how do you mean?

I see it too a lot of people get a lot of training and then don't use it for months or years and then are handed a job that they really can't do. I have had C10 and C12 Cat training two years ago I have not toughed one yet. But there is a certificate in my file that says I am qualified to do tune up and general diagnosis, Big shops are like that regardless if it is a dealership or fleet or independent. It does help if you give a sheet about what you are working on so forcing some one to work on what they don't like to work on can hold things up badly.

He didn't even take some of the classes

The certificate I recieved is more important than the knowledge of my senior techs. In all truth I didn't even take half the ford star programs. Our old service manager and old shop forman took them and just put in our social security #s so they could get the shops competency higher.
 
that's really the pits for anyone who just plunked down $40+k on a brand new 6. 0.



Unfortunately, this kind of stuff is not just limited to the automotive field.



I just received a notice and went through the mandatory yearly refresher course dealing with procedures, ettiquette, first aid, dealings with others on staff and residents, etc in a state-run veterans home.



The notice also told us, if we did not take the class when scheduled, we would have to make it up with other staff in a class taking 8 hours.



The class we took was 45 minutes in length, the instructor put a test in front of us and read the answers out of the book and told us what to put down on paper, along with our names and SS#.



I immediately saw this as a case of the employer meeting a state mandate, and the administrators just wanting to CYA.



for every question on the test, I answerred with



"WRITE THIS DOWN"



as this is what I was told by the instructor.



If we are supposed to receive training, I want the training so that they can't come back on us later if



"THE DUNG HITS THE VENTILATOR"



this happenned about a month ago, and so far no one has come forward to ask me about my test answers.

well... . I've got ASE Master Med/Hvy tech certification and all the other HVAC certifications to go with it. I ran into the problems of employers (trucks) not wanting to put my skills to use. got real bored real fast doing just PMIs and stuff, so I went to the railroads. Loved that job... . but dont have it thanks to lack of senority and merger-mania. :mad:

Tried to get back into trucks again to use my tradecraft, but most places are saying no thanks because I dont have recent diesel experience/training. :--) Oh well... . now Im trucking (short-haul delivery) for a living.



Truck mechanics area has pretty much left a bad taste in my mouth..... figure I'll drive for awhile, pay off bills... and see where I want to go from there. Probably back to the RR or schooling if I can swing it financially. :D

Nor is it just limited to Ford. Dodge has the same affliction, and there was another thread that quoted a conversation with DC "they don't have to be certified to work on Diesels"
