The stock holset Vgt 351 turbo is garbage and its just a matter of time before it grenades not under warranty.
Gosh, I guess I missed that valuable tidbit of tribal knowledge before I ordered my truck back in 2010.I don't think I'll tell my truck about it as I've enjoyed the trouble-free service it's provided towing our 16,000 lb 5th wheel to date. :-laf

I know this question is for 4th gens, but the compound setup on my 3rd gen didn't alter my fuel mileage positively or negatively. Maybe it would if the VGT isn't an efficient turbo?
I also now have a 2012 5500 as a work truck and will leave it bone stock for now. I really don't feel like messing with all the junk on this thing and voiding my warranty for the "possibility" of slight mpg gains.
just read an article in a trade magazine that said ' 6. 7 L engines really come alive and tow well with compound turbochargers ' . is this true ? or should i be happy with stock turbo ? also does twin setup yield better fuel mileage ? wonder what hidden costs come with this setup
