I need help setting up a compound turbo setup for my 1985 Mitsubishi 2. 3 liter Turbo Diesel pickup. The stock turbo is a Mitsubishi TD04.

Housing is 4cm2. So what's an appropriate size housing for the second turbo? I need more top end power. Is there a formula that I should follow? Do you have any recommendations on a specific turbo? And Lastly, is it okay to remove the wastegates when going to this type of a setup?

I can't help much with this, other than to say you're much braver than me. Those little 4D55/56 engines don't like much boost.

Well that's what I keep hearing. I know they push 13 psi stock but I know of a few 4D55's that run pressures upwards of 25psi without any issues but they run large intercoolers and the head's were ported. Is porting the head the secret to reducing the risk of cracking the head?

It could be, but not sure. The cylinder pressures don't so much crack the heads as pop the gaskets. The head cracking comes from overheating.

I'm interested to know how they're running the 25 pounds of boost pressure--is there a website I can go peek at? Thanks in advance!

On your turbochargers, depending on what you're after in the power/driveability department, I would check out some of the imports to see what they're running for compound turbos. I'd guess the stock turbo would be used as the smaller unit, then perhaps an HY-35 or HX-35 could be the larger unit... . just guessing here though. Sounds like a cool project nonetheless.

compounds on an import??? never heard that before. .

a hy35 off a 3rd gen would probably work well as the "bigger" charger... 9cm² & wastegated. .

sounds like a great project
