I am getting ready to get my twin setup and was curious what everyone thinks of their setup.

1. Is it worth it?

2. How much lag and is it noticable while towing at highway speeds?

3. What company did you get yours from?



My truck is used to tow the toys around. I can deal with a little lag out of the hole cause I'm not racing. The end result is 550 to 650 HP and as much torque as possible. I plan on cams/springs, injectors, port on the head, studs, intercooler, radiator and water/meth injection for those long hard pulls. Electronics will be a smarty and edge W/Juice. Fuel will be supplied by a FASS 150 and twin CP3's. I think I have everything covered but if I forgot something please let me know.
 
For twins, Nathan is the guy to call. I hope to be ordering some soon, and hands down, he will be who I go with.

For your power level, the stock over S400 should fit the bill nicely.

However, there are several people running Smarty/Helix 2 cam/Flux 1. 5 - 2. 0 injectors, springs, twin cp3's, intercooler, and all the usual mods, who went with something like a HTT 62/71/16SS over an S480 with awesome results. This combination, in conjuction with the dynatrac manual hub conversion kit seems to net upwards of 700 streetable h. p. , and provide awesome fuel economy... as in the range of 22 - 25 mpg empty!

I'm using a 62mm S300 with a 3" S400 on the bottom. A external wastegate on a spacer between the manifold and top charger, all pipes and brackets are home made. Lag isn't too bad it's obviously worse than when I had the S300 as a single but after a couple of days of driving you don't even notice. There is almost 0 lag at highway speeds. If the boost needle is even slightly off 0 and you floor it they come alive almost instantly. Drive pressure is 1:1 up until about 50psi, then the drive pressure climbs above the boost all the way up to about 90psi of boost and the 100psi back pressure gauge is pegged. (daily driving it never sees above 40-60psi) They're definately a lot of fun. I can tow 20k at about 150hp over stock and it won't get above 1100*. All this is on a '05 6spd manual.
 
i have an 58mm S300 over S400 not much lag at all. custom built piping. about 62 lbs boost at max that i have seen. i tow heavy ***** toy hauler and don't have any issues.
you don't need all the goodies you've listed to get 550-650hp. my engine is all stock with studs. twins, 120hp injector's, GPD pump with smarty only. and i have yet to run the TNT tune... ... .
 
Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming. I am open to building my own but would like to get a kit so my down time is minimal. When I get back to the states I'm gonna throw all these parts at my truck and move all my stuff out west.



You guys that built your own system could come and give me a hand. :)
 
lag while towing will be a non-issue if you size them right. empty they may be a little soggy down low, but with a good steady load behind you, they'll already be making some boost and should be ready to rock when you roll into it

I have the 66mm HTT turbo and final have gotten over the dyno-queen stage and am looking got something that spools faster then the 2000rpm I have now...



Twins would be great - can I use my current 66mm for a bottom turbo if I put a big housing on it? then put a stocker on top?



On the other hand I could always just put a 62/14 alone on it -- but then the 600hp I am used to may be lacking...

if you put like a 1. 32 housing on your 66, you could use an HTBg on top and you'd essentially have a BD towing twin setup



I'd sell your 66 and do a 57 or 62 on top of a K31, S400, HT3B , etc.

You can also use your 66 on top, and drop an HTB3,S400,etc under it. I know it sounds big, but it works. :D My twins consist of a 66/12 on top, and an HT-60 on the bottom. They aren't as laggy as you might think, and they keep things cool.
 
I really like my set up... read sig. It runs aunder 1250* pulling 13k through the hills of PA. The drivability is really good, but since I do not have a dual cp3 I starve the injectors for fuel. Once I get the cp3 I think the set up will be well matched.



1. Was it worth it... who knows because the stock system would pull everything I loaded it up with, but it's sure fun to drive.

2. No lag at all and plenty of passing power even on the hills.

do you have a rail pressure gauge? I run a smarty/TST stack w/ F1 injectors, and while I CAN drain the rail, I have everything set up so that I WON'T... truck runs much better that way

after compairing pricing for multiple options (new twins, new single, etc). I will I am going to buy a new 13ss housing for the 66mm turbo...



If that does not help, maybe smarty time - thanks for the info
 
I LOVE Brads PS62 (?... I think that is what it is) over a K31 in his truck... . very manageable for a daily driver, cool EGT's, and spool up keeps me happy when im used to a stock HX-35... ..... Good towing/street set-up... ... PLUS no external WG to worry about due to the K31 has a WG.



They are II's Towing Twins BTW... ...

Yeh, I have the rail guage and I can not get over 20k unless I wind it up to 3500 rpm. When I stand on it I blow a ton of smoke and it drops from 18k to 12k. As the turbos clean out the pressure ramps up, but I have never seen 25k psi. I know I have to do some tuning and trial and error, but I haven't had the time. I have the TST on 3/3 and the Smarty on 5, stock tm.

Try turning the TST to 3/0. The torque setting on the TST is what always dropped my rail pressure too soon.

YUP! I felt like I'd discovered the new world when I turned off the twins program and just put it on the standard program!!!! dumping all that fuel so early killed rail and it could never catch back up! :eek:
