OK, GGill got us thinking about this one, and no, GGill, you can't win this one unless you've had another unfortunate situation with your truck, or boat, or both (snicker).

This one might be hard for some of you, so if you don't have a photo to submit, simply describe your truck's "most compromising position!"

If I would have had a camera nearby at the time, I know what mine would be. Several summers ago, Robert (the editor) was doing a shade-tree job on his truck - something involving the tailgate. From time-to-time we do call him Captain Sidetrack because he has been known to forget what he was doing. Well, he must have started the truck then got distracted. He climed out and went back to work on the tailgate. A few minutes later we hear yelling from outdoors. It seems his truck slowly rolled backwards while he was working pinning him between a tree and his truck. Neither the editor nor the truck were hurt (unless you count his pride). I still laugh about that picture.

So, I'm sure you all have had experiences like this one.

Post your truck's most compromising position. Extra points will be awarded if you were smart enough to get a photograph of the event.

The winner will get a one-year free subscription/renewal to the Turbo Diesel Register, a TDR cap and a TDR "Got Diesel" T-shirt.

Contest ends: 01/31/09 and winners will be announed on 02/02/09.

Gentlemen, and ladies, start your posting!

My trucks most compromising position was when I found it at the bottom of the driveway hung up on an old iron pipe that is used for the property marker. One night after coming home and leaving the truck outside for the night, mind you this was after a particularly bad day at work, While crawling into I heard a very loud bang. My wife jumps up and says what was that. I replied with the day I'm having the truck probably rolled down the driveway and crashed into your Jeep and the BMW. I then proceeded to crawl into bed. My wife says well aren't you going to check? I replied if there is w wreck in the driveway it will still be there when I get up tomorrow. She says Yeah but the driveway points away from the house. I say so what. She says well it connects to the road which also goes down hill. As visions of my truck rolling backwards and entering the interstate never to be seen again flash in my head I decided it may not be a bad idea to go outside and take a look... It wasn't pretty. The trucks rear bumper had caught the old Beamer directly between the front and rear doors successfully making the car half the width of what it was when it rolled off of the assembly line, pushing it sideways as it did so. The club cab area of the truck caught the front end of the BMW giving it the one eye'd beamer look and if i remember correctly the trucks front tire went up and over the hood giving it the final one eyed, droopy nosed, anorexic foreign car look. I believe my Ram tried to flee the scene of the crime afterwards but never did see the iron pipe in the dark. After a long talk with the truck we agreed that I would never go off withy a sexy european again and my truck would never go out on its own with out asking first and making sure it could see where it was going.....

Damage done . . BMW Totaled Ram 1 used bumper (free from a friend) and a little bit of labor to remove the interior panel and push out the dent in the club cab

My most (maybe only) compromising situation was when my 2 year old grandson was playing with a tennis ball while standing on the side of my truck. The truck was parked and engine was off. I saw him looking at the big exhaust tailpipe with the tennis ball in his hand. He looked at the tailpipe, then he looked at the tennis ball, then the tailpipe, then the tennis ball. I though, no, he's not going to do it. Then all of a sudden he put the tennis ball in the tailpipe. I tried everything to get the tennis ball out, but it just kept going deeper.

I though for a long while about starting the engine in hopes that the exhaust pressure would blow the ball out without blowing out the muffler. Well the long and short is that I did start the engine and the ball quickly popped out. My Dennis the Menace Grandson didn't get in trouble and I don't have a picture of the incident, but I do have a picture of my grandson, who name is Jaxson. Yes, with an X.

At the local OHV park one time and I slid of the wet/muddy trail after ignoring the "Closed When Wet" sign. Luckily my front and rear diffs hung up on the small berm from along the downhill edge and kept me from rolling sideways downthe hill about 200 ft. Any attempt to pull the truck forward or backward only slid it farther over the edge. Finally hooked up a tow strap to the rear bumper and tree up the hill and a come along to the front bumper and a second tree up the hill. fianlly got a thrid strap hooked to the rear end and I was pulled back by "swinging from the trees" and got back on the road.

I used to have video of this but it was so long ago, I can't find it.

the onyl other compromised situation with my truck was when I slid into a wash and had to be winched by a Jeep 300ft dragging the side of my truck along the wash wall.

I do have pics of that though

I have one about my son and one of his trucks. One afternoon while we were in the house, the phone rang and i was surprised to hear my son on the phone because i knew he was out side working on his first gen. He said "come help". He said that he was stuck in his truck. So i hurried outside to find him in a very awkward position. He had been hanging on to the steering colume while looking under the dash, and had hit the tilt lever by mistake. When he did this the colume pinched the skin on his arm in the colume pivot and he could not reach the lever to free himself. He was more embarassed than hurt.

I was cruising through the dunes with a few friends in their H-1s when the guy following me almost lost his 100k hummer. The ole reliable 94 drug his hummer to safety

I haven't really had my truck in any real bad positions i guess the worst was I was giving a girl I went to school with a ride home It was snowy and when I was going through a parking lot I slid the truck sideways and she got all scared so I thought it was funny so i kept it in 2wd and kept fish tailing all the way to her house. then I pulled in the driveway and it was a gravel driveway that they never shoveled so it had snow on it but under the snow was a sheet of ice and I forgot to put it in 4wd and the back end slid off the drive way into her front yard I put it in 4wd and then the front slid down off the drive way and I ended up stuck in her front yard. I felt like an ***** and had to call a friend to pull me out.

mine wasn't too bad but my friends have had there trucks in some bad positions. one friend was loading some jet skis at the river in his 97 5 speed dump he backed down the launch and set the brake went to load the jetski when the e-brake cable snaped and his truck went into the Monaghela River all you could see the the grill and front of the cab protector the truck was running and the insurance totaled it

the other one is my friend and I were all at my friends farm when my one friend went to leave and started this truck took off the e-brake then realized he forgot something and jumped out of the was almost in the barn when his brother yelled cause his truck started rolling toward a steep hill covered in Christmas trees with a deep creek at the bottom. My friend ran back and jumped in just as the truck started rolled over the top of the hill he locked the brakes and stopped just before the creek after mowing down several small Christmas trees I had a picture of this but it was in my old phone Which I no longer have.

This is my Buddy Jake's truck(tdr member) a bit of a pucker I am sure.

I had to pull him out backwards to keep the rubber side down.

One day many years ago after I loaded strawberries on the Mule at a Plant City strawberry farm I had to drive out around the fields instead of back tracking the way I came in which had solid dirt roads along the field.

The way I had to go was using a two rut road. Driving along the backside of one field the Mule suddenly took a sharp left and headed for the field I pushed the brake pedal to the floor as it rolled down a small hill. I got Mule stopped about six inches before it went into the strawberry bed.

I put it it 4-wheel drive and backed up. I drove the all the way to the paved road in 4-wheel drive in the grass on the left of two rut road .

When I saw the "compromising position" I thought - Heck, that's easy.

But when I noticed you wanted C. P. 's of our trucks, that quashed my idea of posting how the motel housekeeper walked in on the wife and I.

Well, last weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to go try out the new suspension on a trail we used to run frequently. It's about a 3 mile run up a mountain, with a 1,300 ft elevation gain... so there's not too many flat spots on it!

Well, we got about halfway up, and things were a LOT worse than the last time we were there... I mean with 37" M/T tires and a 3" lift, it was about more than I could do to get up the trail. However, the trail is pretty narrow, and the one shoulder is a straight drop-off down the mountain... so there's no place to turn around. The only option we had was to pray (literally) and keep going.

At one point near the top, we were trying to navigate beside a major wash-out (at least 4' deep and 2' across ), when the truck lost traction in the ice/mud/clay/slop mixture. I felt the passenger side rear tire swing around and start to fall into the trench! I stayed into the throttle hard, and kept working the steering wheel back and forth... and after what seemed like an eternity of mud slinging, pawing and fighting, the truck came out.

I got to the top and called my brother to let someone know where we were, as around a dozen people have died on this trail in the past 2 years. I aired down the tires, and we started back down the mountain.

As we came to the only flat part on the descent, we starting crossing the couple inch deep puddle that crossed the road and extended a couple hundred feet. However, this time as we were crossing slowly over, the truck suddenly dropped straight down at least 24 - 30" !!!! This "puddle" had actually become a small pond due to extensive rainfall, and had frozen.

As soon as I realized what had happened, I got into the throttle hard... with 500 hp of Cummins pawing, the motor bogged and stalled. I was able to get it started, and put it in reverse. The truck finally backed out of the pond, throughing chunks of 6 - 8" think ice... when we came up on solid ground, all you could see was thick black smoke and steam from the ice-water coming up over the exhaust.

I tried to cross again, this time on the left hand side with some speed (drop-off side), hoping to "skim" across the broken ice... however, we got to the spot where we had broken through, and the front tires smacked the ice ledge, and the truck violently came to a stop.

I backed out again, and this time tried the right hand side, which banked steeply up the mountain side. With have the weight of the truck on the bank, and half on the unbroken ice, we were able to cross...

At the bottom of the mountain, I jumped out to inspect the truck under a mercury light of a church parking lot. As a got out from underneath, my girlfriend to me to turn around... just as a guy living in a house trailer was coming out his front door pumping his 12 gauge shot gun. We jumped in the truck and took off...

Man, what a night! After $40 of pressure washing, all is almost back to normal, and my heart rate has finally settled down again. I think it'll be awhile before I try that again. I'm thankful we got out safe, and plan on trying something a little more docile for the next few dates!!! :)

A few years back I pulled up in front of my buddys house. There was a slight down hill grade in front of the house. I put the truck in first and put the parking brake on, got out and went in the house. Oh yea there was snow and ice on the ground! Walked into the living room to see what he was doing. Well he wasn't there so I walked back to the front door to yell up the stairs for him, but glanced out the front door and my truck was gone. I knew I parked it right in front of the house. So I opened the front door back up and my truck was gone!!! As I turned my head to the right and looked down the street, my truck was slowly running into the neighbors house. What seemed to happen is the emergency brake cut loose. With the snow and ice by the curb, the truck slid and slowly rolled across the street into the house. $3500. 00 later to repair the truck and I didn't talk to anyone for a week. I was bummed.
