Has anyone had problems after having their computer flashed, such as problems shifting or damage to the computer? After having my computer flashed, my truck won't shift into low gear at a stop. It tries to start off in second gear. Is this a coincidence or is it related?

Sounds like you went to Ron Tonkin? Yes a flash of the puter can mess with the shift pattern/points on the auto transmission. It's possible the dealer put the wrong program in or it was not done correctly. Isn't the world of electronics fun.

Thanks for your response. Have you had personal experience with this happening? Timberline Dodge is where I went, and they claim the flashing won't do it. Just to be sure they SAID they put the "old codes" back in, but the problem is still there. If you did have experience with this, how did you get it resolved with the dealer. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Don

What year rig are you re-flashing?!?!?! Your signature shows a 96... in which case your engine is a 12v that is all mechanical, and has no computer such as the 24 valvers do that control the engine.

On 24 valves, the computer program affects shift points--but I've heard of both the ECM (Engine Control Module) and of a "PCM" (Powertrain Control Module?)..... and someone said 12v and 24v autos have a PCM... true or false? Is that what they re-flashed?

Why did Timberline flash your truck? What was it there for in the first place? Tell us more..... Any re-flash of an ISB will have an aluminum colored sticker on the radiator cowling, written in ballpoint pen on it---such as "18-11-99" for the power flash. Or, what was the one for the emissions on the 98. 5s... 8001, or something like that.

We need more info... ... ...

Dave B - Yes I do have a '96 12v. I'm not sure about the PCM question. All I know is Brake Systems, Inc. in Portland (OR), had me get the computer flashed the first time after installing the BD equipment, and I noticed a shudder. Dale at BSI said that the '96's were "on the bubble" with the electronic transmission control, and BD recommended flashing if there was any shuddering problems. I had it flashed the first time. No change. Had a diagnostic run, showed no fault codes. transmission tech at Timberline recommended flashing again, as they had a newer computer "flash. " We did this and, as I left the dealer, I headed for my transmission shop, and it quit shifting into low gear. Now 95% of the time it tries to take off in second gear. The only way I can get it to go into low is to put it in neutral before coming to a stop and then pulling into low gear manually when I start up again. Went back to the dealer and they "said" they put the old codes back in. Still no change. Thanks for any info if you can help me out. Don
