Computer/Internet Explorer problems

Howdy,



For the past month or so, my computer has been acting a little funny. Games and stuff work fine, but when I connect to the Internet and then open IE it will kinda hang, maybe for 5-10 minutes or longer; then IE will open If I open Task Manager it says IE is not responding. I also found something under the "Processes" tab in Task Manager; the "System Idle Process" shows CPU usage of up to 97% But when I check under "Performance", it shows total CPU usage of only about 2-10%



Also, If I try to open other programs(Media Player etc. . ) during that time, they will hang, and then everything will come up at the same time a little while later. :{ :{ Does anybody know what is going on?



2. 70 GHz Intel Celeron, Windows XP. Currently using only 10 GB out of 80.

go into documents and settings and look for local settings, if it doesnt show, its hidden use windows explorer to search for it open it then go to the temp files folder and the temp internet folders open them, from file menu choose select all and then hit delete. At time when these files are clogged IE goes up its butt trying to figure them all out.



Btw system idle is the process in control when nothing is gong on so having it at 97% and you total cpu at 3% is perfectly normal it means its idle 97% of the time

If you haven't already, Scan for and remove adware/spyware. Two free and excellent programs are Adaware SE (free version) from http://www.lavasoft.de



And Spybot Search and Destroy (free-donation ware) from http://security.kolla.de



Also if running Windows XP , microsoft anti spyware beta is free and works fairly well as a real time protection where the other two are simply scan and remove after infection. It is available here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

I recommend dumping I"just another brick in the wall"E and installing Firefox.



It is free, much faster, has nice tabs, less prone to failure and attacks, and helps me with my nasty "up yours" MS attitude.

I've had great success with www.avast.com free home antivirus. If you can't download it normally, start-up in safe mode with networking, download and install. Say yes to boot time check-up. I guarantee you will find some nasty stuff. There are many more things you can do, but this should help.

The best spy removal software I've found is http://www.spysweeper.com . You can download a trial for free but after a little while you have to purchase it (30 days I think). The cheapest way to get it is to download the trial because they offer you a 2 year option for $39. 95 if you get the trial - I haven't found that without getting the trial. It works like your anti-virus in that it stays memory resident and blocks the majority of spyware from ever installing itself in the first place. I used to recommend using both Ad Aware and Spybot s & d as each of them found stuff that the other wouldn't. Spy Sweeper finds everything those two do and more.

I am running the IE 7 preview release and so far it is great. I also have Mozilla but honestly like IE now. I used to be a big Netscape fan until AOL bought it and crapped it up. I also run behind a router, Zonealarm, Microsoft Antispyware (giant Anti-spyware), Norton AV, and spyware blaster, with a ocassional scan from Spybot and Adaware... . most are free and all work excellent. Keep the system updated with all microsoft patches (in IE - tools, windows update) and watch what ya click and you wont have too much trouble. My scanners rarely find anything anymore. The Microsoft Anti-spyware is a free beta and runs in real time, monitoring and protecting 18 infection points. Not too bad for free.

I/E sucks. definately do a spyware sweep as this slows down the computer the most. also make sure you delete stored internet files. cookes and temporary files. this will affect speed as well.

then down load. mozilla firefox. ie is very vaunerable, and just isnt a good browser.
