computer replacement

A week ago, I had to have the dealer replace the computer in my truck. I was a little nervous after reading some of the threads about dealer interactions. (I had legally tinted my front side windows), but it was done as a warranty. Is this a common problem with 2002 Ram's?

Never heard of an ECM being replaced because of a problem if it was an ECM. A PCM goes bad every now and then, but it is really rare. I don't think you will see it again.

If I remember correctly, it was the ECM. The dealer replaced it and gave the me truck and hadn't finished the paperwork. They sent me the paperwork in the mail.



I was a little nervous only had the truck since February.

I was driving down the freeway and the truck would act as though it was going to shut down, or run out of gas. The truck shuddered and then ran normal. I continued on down the road and it ended up shuddering four times. The check engine light came on, I ended up getting off the freeway and driving down side roads. It ended up shuddering 2 more times before I got home.



The dealer replaced the ECM because the shuddering was the ECM loosing communication with the truck. I have driven 500 miles without any other problems.

My "problem" was that my truck was originally set for California emissions and when I upgraded I needed a new ECM with Federal Emissions - hats off to John Scott in Huntingdon Beach - just to make sure the idiot lights cluster reported correctly. Been as good as gold ever since... ...
