which would better suit the mods in my signature, plus a SPS 62 or 66.

i will be using the truck as a daily driver, i like to street race quite often. also a few trips to the drag strip a year. i have heard that the con fe is really grabby and releases really close to the floor which i do not like. but i have also heard that the dual disc you can not shift as fast? with the stack clutch i can row through the gears very fast but i have been racing manual cars for years, this is the first truck though. so if anyone has experience with the 2 clutches please let me know.

Oo. did those new injectors and fass pump burn up your new clutch already? :-laf :-laf

You wont be able to shift fast with the sbc dd just my experience.

I think there is a 3400 plate load FE that would probably suit your purposes perfectly.

not yet but im sure they will soon so im just gettin some info on what clutch to run. im tossing around the dual disc because you can build boost before you launch or so ive heard.

but you can shift the fe much faster.

I've had the SBC 3250# Street DD, and now I'm running a 3400# Con OFE.

The SBC Street DD does shift pretty pretty fast, but nothing like the OFE or FE.

Getting a DD into gear at a stop can take some finesse at times, but the dual disc is really pretty driveable day to day. It also makes your transmission quite loud, it rattles at idle and direct can be a bit noisy (4th or 5th, depending on the transmission).

If you're going to get a dual disc and plan to race, then don't get the street DD. It is an organic clutch, and will probably will not take well to building boost at the line. Peter told me I had to have a fast-spooling turbo and lots of fuel to run a street DD without killing it. The idea is to let the clutch out within a couple of seconds.

A ceramic or feramic clutch will take that kind of abuse, plus it leaves the door open for some sled-pulling.

I found that my driving style does not warrant a dual disc, and I was not prepared to live with the negative aspects of having one. For some it's the ticket, but not for me. If I had chosen a ceramic or feramic dual disc I may have been more likely to keep it. At least I could have done some pulling or boosted launches. I ended up switching to an OFE to get some drivability back. Now my truck drives (and sounds) like stock and still holds the power.

I've been running my OFE for about 1000 miles now. I can still bark the tires shifting into 3rd or 4th, and the shifts happen much quicker than with the dual disc.

Whatever decision you make, be sure to take your time and drive a truck with each style of clutch. A dual disc can be just as grabby as an FE, and an FE can be smooth if broken in properly. I got an OFE just to be sure it was extra smooth.

JCleary,

Do you do any towing with the OFE? I'm looking at getting a clutch because my stock one slips with the injectors and the Bully Dog. My horsepower goals are around where you are now but I do a lot of driving in LA traffic so it needs to be smooth.

Ive had 2 FE's and one 3850 DD running DDP 100hp and hot juice and htt62/14 at 505hp and my FE wasnt good for drag racing cause once I sliped it to get it started it would never hook back up I would have to let off all the way.

Plus my first FE only made maybe 6 pulls and cooked the pressure plate but Peter at SBC being the stand up guy that he is sold me my DD and gave me a new FE for the off season.

IMO If you take out the noise of the DD it tows and drives better than the FE. And after running my DD through the whole NHRDA sledpull season I took out the DD and it looked brand new, so I sold it to another sled puller and he loves it. I ended up buying a 3600 12 button DD cause at the 500hp range I didnt need that much clutch. The 3600 is for sale still in box cause I got a new 06 auto. From my experiance the FE is a clutch for good horse power and daily driving only but the DD will do everthing under the sun. And when you spend that kind of money on a product look at SBC cause they will suport you long after the purchase.

I haven't done any towing yet, so I cannot comment on slipping under load.

The OFE drives just about like stock, but I can't force it to slip yet. I don't do anything crazy with it either, like 3rd gear launches or sled-pulling. I wanted something that would be really drivable on the street, and hold on the dyno.

The dd was just too much for me.

I just pulled a good Con OFE that held 500hp on the street and put a 3600# DD in and it seems to shift the same. And it holds 3rd gear launches... and 4th too...

Jared

yeah i've talked some other guys who said that after burning up 2 or three fe's they switched to a dd and never looked back. so before i go and spend money more than once im just going to go with a dd. i really like what a third gear launch feels like with my stocker :-laf but dont want to keep doing it being this is a daily driver.

i guess my next question is, is anyone running a dd in a g56 trans?
