I thought California was the only place with screwed up smoglaws. I was considering moving to texas to escape the smog laws here, but it seems the EPA a$$hles have beat me to it. I bought my truck in Dallas and drove it home. I was really impressed by Texas. The people were freindly( although i didn't tell them i was from CA, most people don't like us californians:( ). Even your state troopers were nice:D

I drive through Texas several times a year and I like most Texans I've met. Most are good folks.

There is a cultural fight going on in this country; a sort of 'civil war' about whether we go the Liberal pathway or a more Conservative path. God help us if we become "California-cated" like the Liberals want. We'll all be driving donkey carts!

I got one of these letters awhile ago in ca. What a joke. I wish I could find the one that reported me to lay down a really nice cloud for him. Hopefully one that chocks him to death. There are so many other things that people can do to help the environment other than complain about cars.

And long live smoke. I hate a cold planet.

If the sierra club had it's way we'd be driving electric cars with electricity from solarpower.

I'll bet all the cold weather in the midwest and northeast really pi$$es of the people that are always crying about global warming.

You actually meet some Texicans . He!! I thought most everyone here was from another State or from Mexico . You must off not spent much if any or dam sure not enough time around the Houston area . Come on back and spend some quality time on the Houston area roads and freeways , you will think differently ---------------------------Oh I know there is a lot of nice folk here but you have to go to a small town to find them . Hey CFast if you do move here make sure that where you live is about a one and a half to a two hour drive to the nearest big city ( like Houston , Dallas , San Antonio , Austin ) you will probably be just fine . If I live long enough I am gonna try to move to a small town (a town that is dieing or turning into a ghost town ) Where I live now was a small town until that fine life style of living in big city caused every to move out to the suburbs . I use to be ably to tell where Houston stop and the country began , not anymore .

You are probably correct bmoeller, I had forgotten about PETA! They want us all in bicycle-carts like the ChiComs.

Awwww Wayno go easy on me! I only met the friendly Texans at truck stops and restaurants and places like that across I-40. I guess it will be a race over whether Texas goes under from being Californicated or Mexinated.

Painting with a pretty broad brush, aren't we, Wayno? I can name all kinds of TDR members in Harris & Fort Bend counties who are "nice folk".

I too realize that we have to show good "stewardship" by driving without smoke, or more and more restrictive laws will come about to harass us. However, I also sense some rampant stupidity going on in our legislatures:

1. soot falls to the ground and does not affect air pollution in the grand scheme of things. The old worn out gassers that get economic hardship exemptions are a major thorn in my side.

2. If they only knew how much smoke a high hp diesel (er, Fords, of course, a Ram would never smoke  ) could emit in 10 seconds! At dyno days, see what they can do in a couple seconds.

I'm not sticking up for the nazi's here... . but do you know how long it takes for the soot to fall to the ground? Some... SOME of it can fall to the ground in a few days to a few months. SOME of it can stay up there for years or decades. Weather plays a huge role in this.

That being said, I agree with you guys, they're environazi'z

hope this don't start a war on here but in my opinion, if our so called goverment had implemented more restrictions during the oh say 50's, 60's, and 70's on alot of factory smoke stacks and auto vehicles we would not be having that problem today as technology has cleaned up most of this problem with the air quality, so in my response to this, it falls back on the gov't(imagine that one) again.

I mean a ten second smoke law, omg!!! I thank god i live in Virginia in the country where we can still breath and fart without someone snooping on us. . Just my opinion nothing more...

the problem with this is even though there maybe restrictions the gross polluters, industry, still do not adhere the the rules they would rather pay a fine if caught or just take there chances and get away with it. they have deep pockets and dont care, read behind the lines. while the middle class bears the burden and costs. government contuniually allows business to build and expand and issue them tax breaks stating that they will bring jobs to the community. in the mean time they have a 10 year tax deferment and once that is done they relocate or layoff and all that while YOU are paying there fair share of taxes. In case u hadnt notice this really annoys me... im done :)

I dont think I said anything about TDR members in my last post Rusty and if your talking about the LSTDR members thats a pretty small group of people. That all kinds of TDR members your talking about is a very ,very , very small percentage of people in the greater Houston,Galveston area. He!! it so small of a number it wouldn't put a dot on a map . I have to put up with a lot more people a WHOLE lot more people than that everyday and it does take a real big bush ( and on occasion a red brush ) to paint that picture . When the last time you stood out in traffic ( much less in a set up ) with a orange flag Rusty? Wont find to many nice folk there . This ain't the Galveston , Houston area you grew up in in the fifties ,sixties . seventies , much less the eighties , it has change and not for the better either and I know cause I have lived here are my life and I am not that much younger than you but if you don't believe me I can let you talk to some one over eight years old that has lived here all his life and he can tell you how much things have change . I have kin that lived in small towns no where close to a big city and I do spend some time in these little towns and the country folk there are the real nice people . Well he!! when you pass them on the street everyone will wave at you and pull to the side of the road and let you go by if your going faster than they are , wont find that happening around here . Around here they will shoot your the finger and run you off the road and you might just get shot too and if your going to slow for them ( lets say seventy ) they will just pass you on the shoulder .

After playing with the smoke for a while. I finally decided to save it mostly for the people that were so close that I couldnt see their windshield(car) or grill(pickup) over my tailgate. I dislike tailgaters. I drive at a pretty good clip. If they are going faster and the lane in front of me is open I pull over. If its not open they can fall in behind me. Road conditions here usually make large following distances more prudent. 3 seconds would be minimum for safety. 4-6 would be wise.

Most people caught on the first time. A few women took 3 or 4 doses to catch on.

10 seconds should be easy. Just dont go around showing off. It just means that us under turbod boys will have to buy a second turbo to clean up our emmisions. Itll be a good excuse for the wives. Just trying to do my part for the environment honey.

Hey Joe I saw a story on TV about a year ago where if I remember right it was 48 Hours came to Dallas and did a comparison on two auto. They put all kind a instruments in the autos to check to see witch one was polluting the most . They found a old black man that had a 1978 Ford Fairmont and a Suburbanite Female with her all most new Chevy Suburban and let them both do what ever the do for I think it was for two weeks . The old black man work'd at a tire store a couple of miles from his house . He went to the store once a week and didn't travel far from his house when he went anywhere . The female Suburbanite use to live in the city but now drives a good distance to her job now back in the city and was all ways going here and there and running around a lot . Guess who was putting out the most pollution------The Suburbanite female in her gas hog lead sled I mean Suburban . Just thought I would pass that story along . I see it everyday and more and more people are telling me they notice it to . Lots of Suburbanites that are living in my area now are driving to work in Houston everyday and a lot are females driving a big SUV or a four door truck some 4x4s going to work by their self and here I am five miles from my job car pooling every chance I can or driving a motorcycle to work .

Before smoking someone it might be worth considering that in some places in this country one out of three motorists is packing a firearm in their vehicle.

And in all parts of this country shooting at a smoking truck will get you some free rent at the steel ( cross ) bar hotel and one of those three motorists might be driving a smoking Dodge Diesel Pickup.

Yes one needs to be carefull - as I'd be willing to bet a whole lot of $$$$, that the average income of the typical Sierra Club member is at least an order of magnitude higher than us Dodge Cummins owners. And I haven't even mentioned their political clout. Remember you can win the battle, and still loose the war.

So what if you're packing? It's a no win game. Everyone ends up in jail, injured or dead. Why risk it?

Every time I get behind the wheel on a Houston area highway I risk it ---- getting injured or dead because of all the no driving people out there . I ain't got time to worry about people with guns and I wont even mention about the risk I have to put up with for eight to ten hours a day at my job .
