OK i have read a lot of the posts and I have seen the swaps but my questions are about the mirror bases

when you want "power, heated tow mirrors" on a 94-02 (2500-3500) you need the third gen mirrors (yes/no)

but the bases are different on the 3rd gen mirrors so you need to swap the 2nd gen bases onto the 3rd gen mirrors (yes/no)

NOW do you need the 2nd gen tow mirror bases OR will any 2nd gen mirror base (provided its from a power/heated molded plastic mirror) work for the base swap???

I have an 02 2500 with power heated mirrors that are the small NON towing mirrors also I have the same mirrors off of a 98 12V

so my question exactly is will the basses off of one of my 2 sets of mirrors work to swap the 3rd gen mirrors onto my 02 OR do I need a set of 02 TOWING mirrors to swap bases with the 3rd gen towing mirrors

What he said.

The 2nd-gen towing mirror bases are much bigger and have a different shape than the 2nd-gen power small mirrors. They won't come apart like the towing mirrors either. There is no retainer-nut-thingy that comes off on the smaller mirrors.

I did the swap, and had to get 1 set of the tow mirrors from a 3rd gen (POWER/HEATED); and one set of flip up tow mirrors for a second gen (MANUAL). What you have to do is break all 4 of them apart, and swap out the bases on the second gens with the arms on the 3rd gen... Rob Thomas has the whole How-to list on doing the swap. . Check EBay, as I got my 3rd gen mirrors delivered to my door for $318. List at the DC house is $325+Tax. Shop around and see what you cant conjure up. . Best of luck, and let me know if you have any more questions about the swap.

I've got pictures of some of the pieces in my reader rig gallery, but none of them installed and done... yet.

I'll try to get some in there.

Personnally, they are the best design in a truck mirror I've seen. They look solid, go with the lines of the truck, and are big-truck looking when they are flipped out.
