I'm trying to figure out which lockers I can put in which axle. I was done way too much research about the actual lockers themselves and I am leaning towards a detroit front and rear. Now, the application part is wear my mind turns to mush. I understand that I have a dana 60 up front, and a dana 80 in the back with 3. 54 gears, which I want to keep. However, apparently detroit doesn't make a locker for our d80, but I can modify one from the hd dana 70. So, is this the 1979-1985 Dana 70HD with a 1. 5" diameter axle shaft and 35 splines. And, since I want the 3. 54 gears, I will want the 4. 10 and down locker, which is part number 225SL58B (or is that supposed to be the L58A, C, or D? But all of that is only if I have a one piece case (which of course I have no clue). If I have a two piece case, am I supposed to use the225S-18 as they recommend in the footnote? Heck, we haven;t even gotten to the front axle yet.
Front Axle:
This one seems potentially more straight foward, if the axle splines are correct. It looks like I would use the locker for the 1975-2002 Dana 60, 60HD, or 60M (all the same part#) which is a 1. 31" axle diameter with 30 splines. For the 4. 10 and down (because I want to retain the 3. 54 gearing), I need to use the detroit 225SL19B.
Now, I'm not sure whether parts of this is right, all of it is right, or none of it is right. That's where I need the help. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on a manual yet, so all of what I have gathered about has been from previous posts and the detroit locker webpage applications section. www.tractech.com
Thanks so much to whoever can help. This has been done before, but not yet published.
Many thanks,
Stephan
