I know that Pin 20 is for the exhaust brake. What I don't understand is how exactly to connect it to my US Gear brake.

The US Gear has two wires that were to connect to some stupid, crappy little microswtich that gets zip-tied (yeah right) to the throttle pedal.

What I'm hoping somebody can tell me is how to wire it to Pin 20. Somebody said that a relay was involved. I'm not the most electronically-knowledgeable person around, so that didn't tell me much. #ad

I'm very competent with a soldering iron and very basic electronics, but anymore than that, and I need a detailed explanation.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Rob

I sure hope someone can answer this one. US Gear seems to have the best idea for an exhaust brake but their idea of zip tying the "micro" switch to the throttle support seems kind of real low tech. Because of this I am leaning toward the Cummins E-Brake unless someone can tell us of a way to use pin 20 on the ECM to activate the USG E-Brake.

To connect to pin #20 of the ECM you actually need a terminal to put on the end of the wire that will connect to pin #20. The wire will then plug into a hole on the ECM. I don't know how common this terminal is. It is supplied on the end of a wire in one of the harnesses supplied with the E-brake by Jacobs.

Pin 20 of the ECM is then connected to the vacuum solenoid that activates the brake. As supplied by Jacobs there is a toggle switch to make or break the circuit from tyhe ECM through the vacuum solenoid. Some of us have replaced the toggle switch with a shift-lever-mounted two-speed axle switch.

The schematic supplied by Jacobs shows the vacuum solenoid as drawing . 83 amps. The current draw of the US Gear brake would be my concern.

Check your e-mail Rob.
