 Awhile back, someone posted some pics of the difference between the connecting rods for the Cummins, Pherd and Chubby. I have tried to find them with no luck. Does anybody remember where they are or what the link is to them?? Thanks.

You should see that bad boy in person!!!!

REALLY! Tom Matson Dodge (Auburn, WA. ) has all three of these con rods on display in their parts dept. What's not evident in the pic is the extremely heavy-duty construction of the Cummins "B" rod.:eek:

The GM 6. 2 rod looks like a SBC rod and the PSD rod doesn't instill much more confidence in the strength of it's engine. In fact, you want a real good laugh, take a look at the rocker arms used in a PSD...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

we need to update that pic with D-max rod, in all fairness for the chevy crowd:rolleyes: Do you think it's made of aluminum also? ;)

A couple months ago there was an interesting thread about these rods on Ford-Diesel.com. To make themselves feel better the PSD guys decided the ISB rod had to be CAST iron. Yeah. Right.

Cast my A$$! The Cummins con rods are forged!

Those Ford boys will do anything to draw attention away from the pathetic excuse for rocker arms used in their engines!

If the PSD is so much better then why do all the conversions in Ford trucks always involve the Cummins B engine? Ever heard of a PSD in a Dodge Ram? Ya right, for good reason!

Small Block Rods? NIMHO - SBC Rods are smaller than that. They (6. 2-6. 5 rods) are similiar to BBC rods, but the beams are beafier. Those power joke rods are the skinniest of the bunch!

Burlington Dodge had a set of Rod/Piston combos for all three motors two years ago (The last time I was there. ) You ought to see a Cummins piston compared to the rest. When I saw that, I made my choice that the next truck had to have a Cummins in it.

Does anyone have pics of powerjoke rockers? I know that the 6. 2 that I used to own had a bushed cast steel rocker arms riding 4 to a shaft, shaft mounted. It also had some pretty beefy looking roller lifters. Of course it had a CHAIN spinning the camshaft with a gear on the sprocket running the Standyne/Roosamaster injection pump and the vacuum pump (Which was plugged into the rear of the block AKA distributor, and drove the oil pump via a shaft. ). Not even a powerjoke has a timing chain... .

The 6. 2 really reminded me of a converted 396 BBC.

Come on Mr. Brewski, so I was being a little facetious, likening the 6. 2 con rods to SBC rods... they're still wimpy when compared to their counterparts in a real Diesel engine. :D

I don't although, they are wimpy, cheap looking stamped steel weldments.

..... looks like the GM bean counters infiltrated International Harvester (Navistar).

Connecting Rod pics

I showed this picture to my business partner today. He is a Ford driver and has been considering a PS for his next truck. I have been slowly educating him. ( you can't give ford guys to much info at once, they'll overload... . just like their PS!)

Anyhow, when he saw the picture all he could do is grumble something under his breath. I just chuckled.

Does anyone have a picture of the crank shafts?

That will get your attention. ;)

George, yes, the crank is quite hefty too. The main journals are approx 3. 3" in diameter and the rod journals about 2. 7" so yes it is a pretty serious piece

Crank Shaft

Yea, I know. They had all the engine parts on display at the TDR National event in 99 but like a dummy I didn't take any pictures of it. I was just at awl at the beefyness of the cummins. :D

How many journals support the Crank on a I-6 Cummins ?

How many on the V-8 POSD, uh, PSD ?

and how many on the V-8 D-Max ?

I was under the impression that the Cummins has 7 journals for 6 cylinders, and the V-8 P. S. has 5 journals for 8 cylinders?

Am I correct on saying this,?, please right me if I'm wrong.
