New shift knob option - .44 Magnum Billet

Smarty Junior?

OK here is one for guys who are going BIG on the HP... . Who would be interested in better connecting rods? I am talking about 4340 billet rods designed for our engines with big HP and RPM in mind. These won't be cheap by any means but with the failures that are starting to occur I believe we have found the limits of the OEM rods. So chime in and let me know who is really interested and would be willing to "pay to play".

I wonder what the stock ones will keep taking in my case, not that I'm at that big of a number but it may get there someday looking at the parts I'm about to have on hand.

Once I get that other thing done and going (Doug) I need to pull the 12V apart and loosen it up a bit before trying the over 1000 bit, on a single of course.

Call me interested for now!

Jim

is this a real world problem, i mean how many of us will ever see that??(1300hp) really!?!

This thread wasn't directed towards the average guy..... We am trying to gauge real interest in a better rod for the guys who are after loftier HP goals. Failures are starting to show up around the 1300 RWHP range. So if someone is wanting to go beyond this and keep rpm's within our stratosphere better components are going to be a must.

Piggy back here, did you see the violent 1200 hp N2O run from Dynomite Diesel's event... ..... that had rod failure written all over it!

Jim

I listen to that run then listen to my last run and yawn, tame, very tame!

Was over at a buddy's the other day looking at a racing import(say 5-600 hp) that went from 1st to 2nd and back to 3rd and windowed the block. The data logger showed 15 grand on the R's, they then told me about another car that blew so bad the car ran over the crank.

Back on topic: The cranks are beefy enough I think to handle what we throw at them as long as you balance, girdle and stud them, but the rods are definately a weak point.

Jim

Jim, I do not think I am no where near the point of needing rods. But at what horse power level should I girdle? balance ? the crank.

The girdle would be easy to get so I wonder if that should be a priority.

I need to dyno my truck. I never plan on running nitrous. but with my mods I am looking for longevity out of the motor as far as keeping the block and cylinders from cracking

thanks

My bad, it's close if not at 900 hp... ..... Street car by rules!

When Piers did my short block I was all for a girdle and big studs and still am, it seems to me that the girdle tha Doug(JetPilot) has will more than fill the bill, we'll find out as I will buy one for a project I'm taking on.

If I had a motor out, I would girdle it without a doubt! There comes a point were the block will walk, it's just peace of mind.

I'm looking for an update on your truck, with or without a bottle!

Jim

has any one produced any yet and what is the approx cost for the set?? We have calculated approx 950 ish to the ground and have already had rod failures I don't beleive that it's the rods fault, because we had some valve train failures at the same time. But now we want to start spinning more r's it's an area of concern

Doug, do you fly Airbuses or 757's?

Cheers, Bill

TTS in CA makes the billet rods for the Dmaxes, and has been working on rods for the Cummins for a bit. Just waiting on final fit checks.

Cunningham has had them for at least a year.

The stock rods are not the problem, it's the stock rod bolts that let go. Nobody has stepped up and made rod studs yet, just upgraded bolts.

Also the stock rods will hold way more than 1300hp.
