Is the intake on the 05' CTD same as the 06' CTD?

Hello 4x4 owners,

As noted in the title I have a 05 3500 4x4 dual wheel that I want to add lock-up hubs. I have heard good reports on the 2500/3500 single wheel but no reports on the dual. I talked to Robert at Dynatrac and he says that it will work with a $295 spacer that he does not sell or included in his package. So I could sure use some input if this can be done or has it been done. It make me turn green when I see fs and cs that have lock-up that come from the factory, what was Dodge thinking, maybe not thinking. Your help and advise will be appreciated.

Reasons for locking hubs?

1) There is a lots of stuff turning

2) Reduce wear on front drive line

3) Save fuel, I am told it is 1-2 Miles per gal, I know it won't reduce the MPGs

4) f and c have it

5) I want it

6) I am told it improves handling

7) 4x4 all use to have it and nobody as why

8) reduce tire wear

9)

Maybe other members have some more reasons. The question still on the table is: Who has it and can it be done?

Thanks, Dave Mc

I have done it on my '98 dually and Robert @ dynatrac is correct about the spacer. Believe me or not but I think I was the first one to do this on a dually with their products and I sent them the pics a while back when I did it and they told me it wasn't possible. I don't have my pics here at work but I can post them up later tonite when I get home. :)

The place I got the spacer from is here in California and they have a big website you can order them from, but they are basically copies of the Arrowcraft Conversion AA-4 adapters. You just put together Dynatrac's kit and then bolt the spacers on. The only thing is, you HAVE to run a Ford 8 on 6. 5" bolt pattern wheel due to the wheel stud size and pattern also not to mention the wheel centering hub which is machined into the spacer. I will post up the pics tonite then you can ask any other questions you may have.

Edit - Actually forgot, I already posted up a thread in the off-roading section with pics and everything.

Hub Thread

DMcGalliard - I want to do this on my 03 Dually as well but have not purchased the kit yet. The problem is the Dynatrac manual hub O/D is to large to fit inside the stock Dodge dually adaptor. Like JGheen says Arrowcraft makes a adaptor that will slide over the Dynatrac hub but it uses 5/8 " lug studs. Our trucks use 9/16 " studs. So if you ream the stock Dodge wheels like Arrowcraft says to do to fit the 5/8 " studs what about the spare tire ? If you enlarge that wheel you can't use that on the rears if you get a flat. I asked Arrowcraft if they will make the adaptor with 9/16 " studs and they said NO.

I have been thinking about simply machining the inside of the stock Dodge adaptor to fit over the Dynatrac hub, but I'm not sure how much material needs to be removed. Any one with a Dynatrac kit want to measure the O/D of the hub ?

EMS offroad is suppose to make a manual hub kit for the 03 and up and they say it will fit the dually application. So far that kit is not available yet.

Trust me, I tried this just for giggles and there was no way in hell I was going to run the stock adapters after how much material was needed to be removed. They became so thin in certain areas that it would just crack and fail going down the road. Don't do short cuts with this, I would spend the money and get the AA-4 adapters if you want to run the dually wheels. Or you could just skip that and run a single wheel up front without the adapter. Either way, you will not be able to rotate the tires unless you have the tire shop swap them to the rear wheels. Just something you have t live with when you go custom. I would not bother with machining the stock Dodge wheels either, you would basically just be machining them to match the Ford wheels and it's easier to just buy a set of two from a truck tire shop.
