Consistent High MPG with one SECRET!!!!

What it all boils down to is that a large part of the population has decided that driving is a "right", not a priveledge and they have the "right" to drive how they see fit. The rules of the road are merely suggestions that don't apply to them. A friend of my sister said one night " I hate these idiots who get right up behind me on the freeway and expect ME to move over!", to which I asked "Are you in the left lane?", and the answer was of course yes. When I told her that she was in the wrong legally she said "I don't give a ****, they can slow down and wait behind me! They don't need to be going any faster than I am!" Sadly this is the prevelant sentiment with this group of motorist, they feel the road does belong to them and everybody else has to live with it. Funny thing, quite a few of these idiots have also said that the speed limit should be brought back to 55!

These A-Hs need to "stay in their lane" (the right lane) and let the cops do the speed enforcement. I always move into the right lane when possible, but I don't go out of my way to move fast when I'm doing, say, 5 MPH over, and someone is barreling up on my rear at 15+ over. They're just gonna have to wait until I have a space to go, at the speed I'm going. If they want to play "grab-a. . " with my back bumper, I just might slow down, or smoke 'em out.

Lane will be at the Toll Plaza no sooner than you. Be observant you'll see a lot. At 120,000 miles 45% of useable Brake Linning remaining.

Yeah, I work at a National Guard base near Edinburgh, IN (Exit 80 on I-65) and someone else going to the same place was in an "all fired up" hurry one morning. I'm slowing down coming into E'burgh off I-65. Speed is 40 just outside of town. Jerk is riding my tail. Does it all the way thru town, until he decides he just HAS TO pass in the ONE passing zone in town, which is a 30 MPH zone. Passed two of us, had to be doing 40. When I got to US 31, on the W side of town (2 mile max from where he passed) he was long gone, at least another 2 miles down the road. By the time I got to the front gate, he was EXACTLY two cars ahead of me in line at the guardshack. Moron.

Do any of you remember back in the seventies when we had the big gas shortage????



They had a 55mph limit and we all saved a lot of money,but the best was the prices went down, because the big oil company's had a big surplus!



So think about it,if all of just drove 55mph for six months what would happen?

Heck, you're preaching to the choir as far as speed limits go. If they would just enforce the existing limits, it would be good enough. If going from 70 to 80 MPH is worth 2-4 MPGs, what would that save?

My g/f and I recently went to KY. I drove about 75 (late start) on the way out; 65-70 coming back. I remember one VW passing us 4 times in about a 50mi stretch. I was in the proper lane, of course (right, except to pass granny doing 50). He got to Louisville about 10 cars ahead of us.

Almost all cars in the early to mid 70's had high ratios (sports cars and trucks were the exceptions), usually around 2. 73, otherwise your engine would be screaming at 3000+ rpm's at 60. And I never saw a large American car in that era that could touch 20mpg, much less 27!

I am retired as well, after 42 years as and Engineer, my pass time is driving hot shot (courier) All weather, All hours, All for pleasure and the money does not hurt either. I drive the limit and find those that pass me are usually in the ditch down the road. with the new 6. 7, 60 MPH is 1600 RPM and the truck just loves to go all day, all night. Currently I get about 19 MPG before the reflash it was more like 25 MPG. I am waiting to see what the new AU version will do for the milage.

Well I run interstates all winter. From IN. to TX. to CAL. that is 6month on the road. Only major pile up I see is from people that are drunk fall to sleep or people that thank thay own the road that drives away above the posted speed. Sound like you are the last one!!! Interstates are 2 lanes in large city as much as 6 lanes There is no need to be tied up if people show respect for every driver on the road.

I have a 66 Catalina 2DR HT, 389, 2 barrel, and if I don't screw around, 19/20 is what I get too. Sorry if I hijacked this thread.



With my 92 CTD, it is possible to get 24 mpg driving consistently at 58 mph.

Mywife and I just took a 734 mile trip from Tulsa around mostly scenic roads(up & down) thru the center of Arkansas mostly running 55 & 60 mph on the old roads. And 70 to 75 on the interstates. my Stock 2003 was amazing and got an average of 20. 5 mpg.

Must be getting old 'cause I do the speed limit and enjoy the trip. I'll admit I get a real laugh watching all the speed freaks cutting each other off, screaming and making hand gestures at each other. Sure, when I stop for lunch the guy that blew by me a half hour earlier is getting his order delivered as I pull up a table but I notice that I'm smiling and he's not. He's yelling at the kids or telling the wife to hurry up. My wife is snuggling up next to me to whisper something and my kids are busy looking for what's the most expensive thing they can get away with ordering. I notice his wife and kids don't like sitting at the same table with him and seem to be dreading the thought of leaving. Guess he's pretty stressed out by the look of things, tight on money or just ordering whatever's fastest. Hey not a problem, sure he cut me off trying to pass the guy in front of him that was only doing 20mph over the speed limit but I was relaxed and had plenty of time to react without bursting a blood vessel. No problem bud, you must be in a hurry.



Always feel sorry for him when I pass him a little later on the side of the road, talking to Johnny Law. Don't envy him at all. Bet that'll hurt when the dang insurance company finds out.



Yeah that old fart in the Dodge doing the speed limit is me, you'll notice me in the right lane trying to stay out of your way. Easy to recognize me by the smiling lady in the passenger side and the laughing kids in back. Go for it, doesn't bug me a bit that you can do 30 over the limit so long as you don't plow into the back of me while your doing it. I like paying so little for full coverage insurance, my wife gets there relaxed and the kids get to order real food and not that Mc'd crud.



Now if you can catch me off-road, well that's a different story.....

Vaughn there are at leas two lanes and six lanes around large city. stay in the right lane so you can be passed . That is what the passing lane's are for.

80mph = 16. 5

75mph = 18. 5

70mph = 20. 5

65mph = 22. 5

60mph = 24. 5 (yes, I did manage to keep it at 60mph for 100 miles both ways round trip)

Where did these numbers come from? They're too even to be real. Sorry Jason, I'm not trying to pick a fight.
