Here's the situation. I installed an iPod adapter in my truck and I want to run the cable into the storage area in the arm rest in the front seat. I know that some of these trucks have power outlets inside the storage area and I was wondering how the wires were run to it. I figured I can just follow the way the factory runs the wires and get the cable in there that way.

Also, has anyone added a power outlet to the storage area? I would think that you could get a harness and an outlet from the dealer and it would be a plug and play deal.

Thanks,

Jeff

The wiring for the power outlet inside the console runs up along the passenger-side hinge.

I haven't added a power outlet to the underseat storage area, but you're right - it would be very simple.

Along the passenger side hinge huh? That is odd, I would have expected it to be along the driver's hinge. Not sure how they would get the wire to come out at the passenger hinge.

I wound up taking apart the console and popped out the plug in the front left corner where the power outlet would be and ran the cable through it. Then I zip tied it to the metal frame around the storage box, put the cover back on, and ran it down along the driver's side hinge. Then I ran it under the center seat and under the shifter console and up behind the heater controls where I used some velcro and mounted the box on top of the storage cubby. Gotta love having electric heat/air controls. Leaves lots of room behind the cover for stuff like this!

BTW Ryan, when I commented about adding the power outlet, I meant the one in the arm rest storage area. Mine doesn't have one in there. I would like to add it so I can keep my cell phone in there and out of sight. I unfortunately don't have the storage area under the seat. I need to find a wrecked truck and get that though. It would be really nice to have! Now the only problem is if/when I add that power port, I'll have to move my iPod adapter cable!

Just a bit of info. On my 04. 5, last summer I had a small TV/dvd combo unit pluged in for my son in the back seat during our 3000 mile road trip. Well, it did work fine but, it really messed with the radio when he had the tv on at the same time I was listening to c/d's. Could never figure out what the problem was. I just figured it was just too much of a draw on the circuit or it just didnt like Classical music. Anyone else have that problem? Maybe they just ment the 12vdc plugs for cell phones and laptops

Oh! I get it. I still think it would be pretty straightforward if you got one from a wrecked truck or a dealer.

Check Ebay.

Also, the wiring for the outlet comes from the driver's seat, goes under and in front of the center console storage bin, around the right side of the center console, up the passenger's side, and then into the console itself to the plug. Yes, it is very strange. I just had my center console tore apart and I thought it was a waste of wires!

Holy Cow! They gave me an 11. 5' cable and if had run it that way I don't think it would have been long enough!
