Control Arms

I have a set of Kore control arms on my 04. 5 right now. The lower control arm bushings on the axle end are shot. Was wondering if the carli's are worth a shot or anyone else makes a good one. Will be calling Kore about rebuilding both ends, but last time I talked the rebuild kits where just about as much as a new set of control arms... ... .

I am trying a set from Titan Machine right now. Too early to tell about longevity, but I know all the reviews have been excellent so far. Here's a pic:

I hear Thuren's control arms are above average as well.

Wow those look really nice. What exactly do they do for you? Change the geometry at all? Do they move the wheels forwards at all?

They will change the geometry if you get a different length from stock, which I did not as I do not have a lift and do not intend to install one. What makes his control arms desirable is the fact that he uses Ballistic Joints instead of rubber bushings like in the stock arms. I feel that the Ballistic joints are the best out there for reliability.

With the OEM bushings, once you place the arms in the frame and torque down on them, the bushings are placed into a bind on the frame mounts. Without the proper length steel centers to ride on instead of clamping on the rubber or poly bushing they will not articulate and allow the arms freedom of movement.

Mitchell's use of the Ballistic Joints allows the arms freedom of movement so when you torque down on them you torque on the joints center section and not the outer part of the bushing which would create a bind.

Makes perfect sence. I guess on the stockers the steel bushing does not extend past the rubber? I have a leveling kit. Would i order the stock length arms?

I tried to order Carli's controls arms to go along with my 2. 0 system. Due to them being on back-order the folks at Poly Performance convinced me that their house-brand was as good or better. So I went with their adjustable ones. I did install them approximately 0. 50" longer than stock in prep for the Carli instal.



I completed the control arm installation before the rest of the Performance 2. 0 system was delivered. I was able to notice a differnce right away in the new arms.

The factory control arms were still in very good shap on my truck (50K miles) and the new ones went on very easily. I didn't really need to replace all the bolts but did anyway since I had prepared for the worst. First thing I noticed in in the test drive was that there is a noticeable increase in road noise tranmitted into the cab. Clearly the rubber isolation was doing it's job in the factory set up. But I also noticed 'tighter' steering reponse. Evidently the rubber was also permitting more 'slop' in the steering response. So pretty much a trade-off; more noise but quicker/tighter steering response.



Can't say how long the new arms will last since they have less than a 1000 miles on them so far.

If you are lifted, you most likely do not want stock length. Most go 1/2" longer, but whichever manufacturer you choose will be able to tell you what you need.
