How hard would it be to change a 2wd to 4wd?? Desperately need to do it. Fabricating is not a problem. Just need to know what parts are needed and what will work from mine... thanks

If fabricating wasnt a problem, you wouldnt be asking this question:confused: . Its not worth it,IMO,just sell it,and buy a 4wd,or a rolled 4wd,and swap the bodys if that is possible. I think a 4x4 rolling chassis, even engineless will be $$$,and that is the only way to do thi right, unless your a professional fabricator/welder,theu usually get 50-75 /hr here,so your better off selling it,and buying a 4x4.

I agree, besides the fabricating and basically an entire new front end there is also some electronics involved such as no ABS in 4wd. Don't know how complex but is worth considering.

I would agree with the above and from my signature you can see Fabrication is not a problem for me either :D

basically you would need to pull the entire K frame out from the 2wd. not having owned one, i dont know are they welded in or bolted? or both.

then you would have to weld on 4wd shock tower mounts. there is also a small cross member present on the 4wds in the front half of the engine that you would have to source and weld in to the frae rails. you would need a track bar mount and little bracket welded on and the top and bottom mounts for the four link bars. then you will have to replace the following steering components. ditch the pitman arm, idler arm, center link, sway bar, both tie rods and shocks. replace with 4wd sway bar and mounts, steering stabilizer, pitman arm, tie rod, drag link, shocks, springs and of course axle housing. :D

shoowee, thats alot of $$$ in parts right there and i probably missed a few things :D

better find a 4wd already made for this trick :D i know i wouldnt touch it. my pocket book and time clock is smarter than that.

It was gonna cost me about 8k to do mine, and thats just leaving my truck there for 1-2 months. If i didnt leave it there so the guys could work on it when they got a chance (not a priority job) the price was gonna be around 12K. You are looking at about 4k just in parts in just the axel and the transfercase. then there is the springs and drive shaft and everything else. I opted not to do it and am currently looking for a new 4x4, kinda sucks that I have to start over with payments, but it just not worth it.

ps these prices were from my friends shop, Cost on parts, and paying the guys hourly for actual time worked. not the $70hr posted on the wall. plan on over 12K now that i think about it

Quigley 4x4 does conversions on vans... . look 'em up online.

Give 'em a call..... they convert 2wd to 4x4 every day.

It ain't cheap..... but they do it right. I've seen a few of their conversions... very nice.
