heres another , again my friend looking at the 93 dually really wants a 250 or 350 SRW ,and extended cab cummins this year aren't falling out of trees , so to speak . does the bed need to be replaced and does the rear axle need to be replaced to do this conversion ? thanks again

Hey Muscle Man, I had a '81 D350 DRW and did it. It can be done several ways. The way it sits now, the inner wheels track with the front wheels, when the truck is on all 4, it looks real silly due to the rear fenders and axle/ wheel combo. What I did was get a stock steel 6" 2WD wheel and had it widened to 11", all on the outside (same backspace) and I think I had a 33" load rated BFG All Terrain on there. It looked real good, and carried some weight. I sold the truck like that. Here I have a 3 bridge authority who considers duallys to have an extra axle, so the Toll is almost double. I really blew them away almost every time since they wanted $8. 00 and I was only offering $4. 00. The looks I got when I said "look a little closer!" because the fenders threw them way off. BTW this was the reason for doing this, I really like the way Duallys look.

I have a 1990 DRW that I also would love to convert to SRW, but the cost looks prohibitive. The bed needs changed, a new axle and the real zinger is the front wheel hubs that are different between the DRW and SRW. Dodge wants $350 for each front hub.
Wayne, did you have the dually wheel widened or did you use a SRW wheel?

Good luck,

Bruce

thanks guys , i wasn't sure if it was a fairly simple cost effective swap , he would be ok with a dually if he could get it in his garage , but he can't so its got to be a SRW , i did assume someting had to be done wit hthe bed , but wasn't sure about the rear axle and thought maybe there was just an adaptor for the front hubs .

If you want to convert to a single wheel, put an ad out, there is a thousand guys who want a dually. I am sure you could talk someone into swapping front hubs and rear Axel/bed and maybe even put a couple dollars into your pocket at the same time. Just check the lube and gears in the rear end you get.

1985 DODGE 1 ton Crew Cab(imported from California with no rust) W/8' box converted to 4X4(wasn't that hard to do!) in 1999,converted to a 1991 Cummins Turbo diesel & 5 speed Getrag in 2000(wife can't drive a stick :). 4:10 gears, limited slip rear end, 205 transfer case, 16" Goodyear GSA Wranglers and LE Package and a Sony CD Stereo. A one of a kind truck(Wish Dodge would build a new Crew Cab in 1 ton, last year Dodge built a Crew Cab was 1985)If you want to know why I did all of this, 2 kids, one on the way and I can't stand Ford and Chevy.
