Bill, I just read and re-read my 2001 service manual,it states

OD off/ 1,2,3 lockup
OD on/ 1,2,3,overdrive,lockup.

Several members stated that driving with OD off will make the TQ last longer and only use it over 50 MPH. If i am reading the shift pattern in the book corectly that should have no effect on the TQ clutch since it also locks up after 3rd with OD off. So why tow with overdrive off if the TQ is locked up anyway. HELP!!!! THE MORE I READ THE MORE CONFUSED I GET. Bill, I need a level 101 in auto operation.

I am on my way out i will explain when i get back, think of it as mechanical advantage.
3rd gear on a Chrysler transmission is 1-1 ratio, od is . 69-1, if you look at some of the standard guys they tend to slip their clutch in the higher gears rather than the lower gears. I will do a better job when i get back of explaining as it will take a while to compose. I have a feeling a few of the other tdr guys will step up as i believe this has been discussed before.
