Hi Ya'll,

I have a 98 1/2 that I purchased with 80,000 on it. I installed the mystery switch and find it to be very helpful until I forget to shut it off. It does remind me real quick at 700rpm. What I would like to know is if anyone knows how to install a switch so I can "keep" the converter unlocked, which is just the opposite of the mystery switch. I think this would really help when I'm towing a loaded trailer. Thanks for the help and since I'm new to TDR and CTD, I'll probably be bugging everyone for answers. Really enjoy the site.

Thanks, Larry

Before I got my transmission upgraded I had a Mystery Switch and it had 3 positions: Always Locked---Stock Operation---Always Unlocked.

Jim Leonard installed it on the previous owners truck. There must be some threads about this. Maybe someone else will chime in here and tell you where a schematic is for this set up.

pulling loaded trailer with tc unlocked=heat, lots&lots of heat. I not sure why you would want your tc unlocked unless you are thinking you input shaft will break w/locked shifts.

The only reason I want to keep the converter unlocked is for the extra couple hundred rpm which seems to be just enough to pull some hills without lugging the engine as much.

Lock in / out

Take a look at the BD 3.

The ad says:

The TorqLoc 3 position switch allows you to lock up the converter on demand.

This will result in 100% rpm transfer, lower transmission temperature and excellent transfer of retarding hp when slowing down. The second position is for unlocking the converter when you have a high torqued engine that can cause the converter lock up clutch to slip or if you don't have enough power and are lugging the engine. The third position is a stock position

The computer will automatically disengage the lock up clutch at 25 mph to prevent the engine from stalling if you forget to switch the lock up off.
