5th gear/2400RPM or 6th gear/1700RPM???

Equal tire balance

I just had the converter replaced in my 5th wheel. The new one is latest and greatest solid state model. :-laf However with no load on in the 5th the voltage is 13. 7. If I turn on 1 light the voltage drops to 10. 5. If I continue to turn on lights the voltage works it's way up to 12. 4. I called the Manufacturer about this and they said I had a bad ground. I checked and cleaned all of the grounds and it still does it. #@$%!Does anyone have any experience with these things.

Try checking the voltages right at the converter output. If the voltage at the converter is dropping, then the converter is bad. If the voltage at the converter is stable, but is dropping down-line, then you have a wiring problem. It could be a bad (high resistance) connection anywhere on either the + or - side.

Any problems with previous converter might give some helpful clues on figuring out new converter problems.

Also converter ammeter readings to go along with voltage fluctuations are big troubleshooting help.

I agree with Kelinger. Just measure the voltage right at the output terminals of the converter. Watch the output voltage as someone else adds load, (turns on more lights) Figure about an amp per light. If the voltage does not stay constant, return the converter.
