Hello to all and a big thanks in advance. I have a 2001, 2500 with a 3:55 ratio and would like to go to 3500 springs and a full Dana 80 axel assembly without duels. Can I just change the studs on a 3500 axel and bolt it in? Are the U-joints the same between the 2500’s and the 3500’s? Are the wheel cylinders for the brakes bigger on a 3500 axel than the 2500 (drum brakes)? Also does anyone make a set of overload air bags that mount inside of the frame rails for this truck? All I have found are outside and there is not much room for tire chains. Thanks again for the help…………Charlie

Do a search on rear end swap. Numerous threads on this. What I remember is:

Wheel cylinders are different

Spring Perches are different

U bolts are different

Drive shaft will have to be shortened

I was wanting rear disks and contemplating the Dana 80 swap. I found a Dana 70 for a 2500, so I ended going that route

Good Luck

Joey
