Is it possible?... ... well, I know it's possible, but more appropriately, is it "affordable", in the sense that it doesn't cost more than a whole new auto? Is it a relatively do-able swap for a good transmission shop to accomplish?

EDIT** 2006 QC Electronic Shift 4x4, SWB, 48re, CTD

I looked into going the other way...

About $12k when you're all done. If you found the right guy to swap parts with, it may be affordable. You need to swap out ECM's, drive shafts, and a host of interior parts to make it work.

Spend $5k-$7k on a fully built billet auto and be done with it. It will do everything you ask and more. Plus be a lot faster, on or off the strip.

:--) :--) I looked into it and it wasnt nearly that much although it was spendy for sure. I was not going to swap over the steering column or anything though. I was just going to put a ratchet shifter on a floor console.

I would love to put one of the new 6 speed auto's in my truck.

Uhhhh... . nevermind :--)

$12k would include the fully built auto, counting for $7k alone.

TJ (TJSHOTROD) did it to his '02, and rumor has it that it was somewhere in the same neighborhood.

I'm sure there's a lot of bugs to work out, accounting for a lot of labor.

J&H Performance in Redding can do it. Give them a call. If you find a cheap 48RE you could save a lot of dough.

He had a someone who swaped parts with him. I think it was a little less than 12k but not a whole lot plus the cost of the billet race transmission and paying someone to do it its not that bad. when we raced I remember TJ running around 15. 2. now with the auto I think his best is 12. 8?
