Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Converting dually to single axel

Im looking at buying a Dana 80 for my truck right now i have a dana 70. I have found a dana 80 dually. I was wondering if i could convert a dually over to fit my single axel. Also the dually has drum brakes so could i can i convert the drum to disk. Has anyone done this before.

Three years ago I looked into doing this to my '01. 5 and found that a swap to a '99 or earlier (IIRC) Dana 60 front axle is required in order to complete the conversion over to hubs that accomodate standard 8 lug wheels. Dynatrack does not make a conversion for this (because of the design). This is what the owner of Dynatrack told me. Perhaps someone has worked this out by now.

i have done it just 2 years ago on mine. It is really easy to do. mine also has drum brakes. I love the drums. The stopping power is great I think. My rear tires stick out maybe a half inch more than the front but it isn't enough to make me want to swap. You really have to look to see that they are sticking out more, plus it gives you a little more stability.

What are the steps that need to be taken to switch to a single rear end. Can it be set up to use disk breaks. . Hard or easy, do you need any new parts and

Just thought I would respond to this post. I just finished installing a Dana 80 Dually rearend in my 95 2500. The R. E. I used came from a 95 3500 Chasis Cab. it looks and drives great. No problem installing it everything bolted up good. I installed 2" lift blocks between the axle and springs instead of the 41/2 in blocks that were in the 3500. The only thing I am going to change is, to put some spacers between the drum and wheel to move the wheel track out 1/2 in on each side. The truck drives great and tracks good going down the road at 65 mph. Hope this helps. If I can be of further help pm me.
