Has anyone converted their truck from a manual to an auto? Beginning to have some knee problems and the thought of an auto is beginning to sound better to me. I have a 2001 1 ton that has been a very good truck. It has a 5 speed currently. I know that an option is to trade for an auto but I know the history of this truck and it is paid for. Any help would be appreciated.

Do a search on the topic. There was a member that just completed the same task. I believe his TDR name is partyat33. It was recently so it should be easy to find.

Talk to "PARTYat33" Dennis just go this new auto bolted in. I'm sure he could answer the first thousand questions you"ll have.

Ask away. I am following Amianthus (Aron). He did it first. If it wasn't for the hot weather mine would be done too. Not hard just a lot of details and decisions.

I would want a heavy duty auto, because I tow heavy with this truck. And I may put a bale bed on it in the near future. What was the cost of your conversion approximately?

I was thinking of doing the same also to make my truck quicker. I have a 2wd so i only have to mod one driveshaft. I know the crossmember is diff. also but what about wiring??? and anything else? Someone said instead of using a 47re to use a 47rh i believe out of a first gen. for wiring reasons or something??? Wonder if a 6 spd. would be an easier swap?

Let me know if either of you decide to do the swap because I am wanting to go the other way and swap my automatic to a 5sp. My truck is a 97 so the transmission wouldn't work but some of the other parts would. Also I would be interested in buying all the parts for my conversion. This would cheapen up your conversion considerably by selling your transmission and all the parts.

blkdragon... . talk to Amianthus..... he has everything you need to swap to a 5 speed manual... . he may even have time to do it for you... . Chris
