Can the oil pressure guage be converted to show fuel tank level? Now that the crew will be running 2 tanks (stock plus the Ramcharger), and I will be using a Autometer oil pressure guage, that leaves the stock oil pressure not in use. I was hoping to use the stock oil pressure to show the fuel level of tank 2. Can this be done? Thanks,

Robert

Wire in a toggle switch to the fuel sender wire, and then you should be able to toggle the fuel level to the same gauge. How are you switching fuel tanks? Electrically? Then get a switch that can switch two circuits at once. When its switched up, you run the front tank, and see the front tank level, when its down, then you see the rear tank level, and run from the rear tank.

That way you get both tanks, one gauge, no confusion.

Well I hate to use 4 letter words in this family forum, but I once had an 88 Ford pickup (gas) with dual tanks.

The electric switching valve was under the driver's floor inside the frame rails. Rusty as all getout... . but it was one of the very few things that worked flawlessly on that truck.

This may help your decision.

:-laf :-laf I wasn't going to comment about my mom's two ford econoline vans that had dual tanks.

I used to have an old truck, I forget what kind but I think it started with a "Ch" and ended in "vy"... But anyway, it had dual tanks and they worked great. The switch was in the dash next to the ashtray, and the rest of the truck rusted to the ground around it. The dual tanks were the only thing working when it went to the bone-yard.

Use a chevy C30 gasser selector valve. Then get a double sided switch. Wire the 12 volts for the valve on one side of the switch. Then break the sending unit wire and run it threw the other side of the switch. This gives you one gage for both tanks.

A double sided switch will have 6 terminals on it. Hook 12 volts to the center terminal of one side. Then run a single wire to the valve.

Split the sending unit wire and put it on the center terminal of the other side. Then hook the other end of the sending wire to which ever terminal you need for the main tank. Run a new wire to your second tank sending unit and hook it to the terminal you have left.

Also make sure the selector valve has return fuel. If not you will pump all return to the oppite tank and could overflow it. I know a 76 C30 had return fuel on the valve. This valve is normaly not powered for the main tank. You power it for the aux.

I will keep these in mind if I cannot find any other way, but what I am trying to do is have two "live" gauges at the same time. Is this possible?

I am not sure if the gage your wanting to use for a second fuel is calibrated close enough to work off a fuel sending unit.
