If I bought the parts that 1] holds the brakes pad carrier to the diff 2] brake pad carrier 3] brake pads 4] calipers 5] new hoses 6] height valve bypass hose 7] the prop valve off of a gen-3 2500 --- would they go on a gen-2 2500 and work ?

I have a gen-3 and my brother has a gen-2 . He would like to have disks in the rear.

Here's a place to start. https://www.ebay.com/i/123750597605...MI_5-r56e_5QIVjJOzCh2HrgcrEAkYASABEgKwwPD_BwE

Years back I used a kit sold by Black Birds Custom trucks, but can't seem to locate? Anyhow there was minor welding for: the hardline to hose bracket that goes to the caliper. And, on mine, since I wanted E-brakes I had to weld a bracket for the stock (had to be modified) E-brake cable. The calipers (with E-brake) were from a 76-78 Eldorado, rotors were from a GM 2500 and the hoses were from an 85 Dodge 1500 front. The calipers are a royal PIA to get the E-brake lever set right, which "every" time you change pads you have to re-set up. If I was to do it all over again I'd try to locate stock Dodge pars from a salvage yard...

I would suggest not bothering with this swap. Not only are the factory rear disc arrangements for the 2nd gen truck more problematic due to corrosion and function, but the rear drums are very functional and very strong...as long as they remain adjusted and not compromised by corrosion. The more appropriate upgrade is converting the front discs to 3rd gen for slightly more stopping power or installing a completely new aftermarket disc kit from EBC.

Like this??? PowerStop cradles and calipers, EBC US Made rotors and EBC Orange HD Truck pads. all 3rd gen! Had to go to 17" wheels to do the upgrade. Simply AMAZING braking!!! Same parts on rear but 2nd gen spec.

To continue on with the questions -- 1] If upgrading to 3rd gen fronts gives you only "slightly more stopping power" why is done ? or even worth the cost. 2] If factory disk arrangements for 2nd gen trucks problematic then why not use 3rd gen rear disk parts ? or are 3 gen rear disks just as bad as 2nd gen.

I don’t know for sure, but I would imagine 3rd Gen rear parts won’t work because the 3rd Gen axles were AAM, 2nd Gen were Dana.
