Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) convertor lock-up in 2nd gear?

That would depend on how the factory valve body is modified. I would recommend calling ATS they have the knowledge to answer your question correctly.

I can do that to mine without a controller, and there all modified factory valve bodies.

Go here and read the directions... I would only recomend this if you have upgraded your transmission. Yes it will work with a modified factory vavle body.

I had to descend a steep 2-mile mountain road, with switchbacks etc. every 2 weeks for over a year and I always locked it up in 2nd gear and turned on my exhaust brake. I love my ATS! And yes, all Performance Trans builders modify the Factory Valve Body. I watched them do mine at ATS 2 years ago!

As Jim Fulmer posted all the VB's out there are modified factory VB's. I see you are asking if you can have 2nd gear lock-up with a smart controller, and the answer is yes.
