Good year trout fishing & fish fry

Well you might as well include a Gift Certificate for a "Sniper Training Course" to round out the package. :-laf:-laf;)
I also have a 300 Win. Mag. that baby holds a tight group at any range.

Its a good round!!! she inherited it when I went a little larger for even more range and KNOCK DOWN TORQUE!!

Not a thing wrong with the 300 wm we had the action blueprinted, a new tube screwed on, with a new trigger to tickle, sits in a HS stock with a Leupold VX-3 6. 5 x 20 50MM Side Focus Target She's a shooter!!!

Iv'e been thinking of going to that or the 7 rem from my trusty 3006.
Country I hunt is open, so sometimes the only opportunity is 500 yards, which is a bit of a poke, to still have enough smackdown for a big critter.

I keep looking at the bolt guns out there (buyers remorse from my MK12). By the time I think a simple low end $ wise, but tack driver would be good, the dollar figure for proper up-fitting just screams - just get an Accuracy International . 338, optic, reloading dies and be done with it.

Not one thing wrong with the 30/06 its brought down lots of Elk at 500 yards!!! or more if the shooter can do his part, most of the Large game calibers can do pretty well at range. Lots of people that hunt with us use the 7MM It works well, I just like a little bigger bullet weight than what it has. JMO. If the wife could handle it I would load a bigger slug in the 300WM but she only weighs around 125lbs or so the 180 gr is at her limit, I didn't think another 20 gr's worth of lead would be that much more but she say's it hurts.

I don't know much about the Lapua 338 or any of the other BIG 338's other than the one I use 338/378 its pretty hard to beat, I also have a 338 WM from my Dad's collection when he passed, I have used it once or twice in a wooded area, it laid the lumber to Elk.

Just what the Wife's 300 Win Mag need's, A Christmas Gift for the gal that has almost everything she needs

:-laf For what that costs, you could get her a whole new rifle!! Being fully aluminum, extreme temps will affect it noticeably.... Definitely cool, but I don't see the practicality.... And the unforgiving nature of the material would transfer all the recoil to the shooter..... The foam filled, synthetic stocks absorb a lot of felt recoil, especially in larger rounds.....

There are a number of large caliber rifles priced pretty reasonable. I don't have any, as I like to do my own chambers and barrels, but the Savage rifles are put together right. I've shot several, and they make a good impression. The .338 RUM is actually a more efficient design than the Lupua, from what I'm finding. I'm currently waiting on a .338 Edge reamer to start my next project... it's a .300 RUM necked up to .338. It's .90 longer than the .338 RUM..... Nothing wrong with the .338 Lapua, WinMag, or .338/378.... I'm thinking of building a .338/.378... I just acquired an action I "need" to do something with... :D

The 7mm Rem mag is a good choice for a little less recoil, but still have downrange energy. I think many people load too light weight of bullets in it to take advantage of it's powder capacity, but that's my opinion. Ballistically, the 7mm bullets are superior until you enter the heavy .338 range. Launching 168-180gr bullets at near 3000fps makes a mean wallop out to 800yds....
