Anyone running this thing on their 3rd gen. (page167 issue 50).

Would like a little more turbo sound, but not the sound the AFE with torque tube gives, Had that on my 99  (offensive).

My silencer ring is already removed with an AFE drop in.

Thats what I run, and I like it WAY better the the 3-piece Torque-Tube...

The CBH it easier to install, and it also better flowing, IMO

I checked out your pic of the tube is that the only way to run the Mass flow wire?.

Also I remove my oil filter from the top will the cool hose withstand being taken off and reinstalled over and over again?

Third and last thing,is it quieter than the AFE stage two?,my buddy at work has the same truck with one  don't want that. I mean it's kinda cool but been there done that!!!!!!.

Thank

Mac

As far as i could tell it's the only way i guess i could run it underneath the tube to take some of the slack out of it.

I take mine off every time i change my oil as well. it is pretty thick silicone and goes on like it was brand new everytime.

I have not compared it to the afe, i just noticed the nice whistle. also i reinstalled my silencer ring. it made to much of a WHOOSH sucking noise, not so much whistle.

I've had both the metal AFE Torque Tube and the Cool Blue Hose.

The AFE transfers more sound than the CBH, but not much. If anything the sound from the CBH is a bit smoother, but still loud.

I just installed the CBH & AFE drop in & like it. It's not that loud in the cab. Nothing like the Scotty 2 was on my 01. I'm not taking the silencer ring out because 31 yrs of driving truck I've heard enough turbo whistle to last me a life time.

GFrance,

You had a great idea and AFE has now produced their Super Stock kits that include the drop in filter (standard or PG7) and the torque tube with all the required boots and clamps. Saves you money to buy them as a system. Great intake improvement for those that don't want or need a Stage I or Stage II system.

Mark @ DPPI
Mark, I agree GFrance has a good combination with a performance filter and Cool Blue Hose. Here is the results of some testing which indicate the insulating value of the Cool Blue Hose.

"The following is some test data provided by:

Pete Tomka

Performance Systems Mfg.

We tested 4 intake tubes while pulling 16,500 GCW (truck and trailer) up a 6% grade for 4 miles in almost 90 degree temperature. I recorded ambient air temperature; intake air temp inside the stock air box with the PSM cold air intake; and intake air temp just before the turbocharger. We recorded data from these 3 sensors every 1/4-mile during that 4-mile run.

Using the stock Dodge intake tube as our baseline, the Cool Tube reduced the air temperature at the turbocharger on an average of 5. 0 degrees (95. 09 to 90. 09) during the 4-mile run The ambient air temperature varied between 88 and 84 degrees. The maximum reduction in air intake temperature was 8-9 degrees just before topping the 6% grade.

I'm very pleased with the initial results. The other two intake tubes we tested (molded plastic aFe and steel tube/rubber elbow from aFe) both reduced the air temperature at the turbo by 0. 4 to 0. 6 degrees, which is an insufficient difference from the stock tube. "

I like the one that has the least amount of connections... IE - the least amount of chance of a leaky seal.

Thats why I like my CoolBlueHose - If AFE made a one piece TorqTube when I was looking I would have considered that as well.....

I have the CBH and am using an Amsoil drop in. I did the 4" hose mod to the stock air box too. I left in the silencer ring and also installed a TAG. Itiseasy to remove when changing the oil, looks like it will last a long time, very well made.

My dealership has NO PROBLEM with anything I have done, in fact, asked me where I got all the stuff and is now offering them to customers. I love mine.

That is exactly the reason I want a CBH one of these days...

Less connections = less opportunities for leaks. The CBH cuts the number of hose connections in the intake plumbing by 50%.

Setting up an new 06 3500, does the CBH or AFE void the factory warrenty?

Check with your service dept first, but my service manager said these along with a TAG would not raise any attention. No issues.

By a long shot IMO. I did a cool blue and didn't really care for the added high pitch whine while towing. My son did the stage 2 on his truck and that thing is real loud, not even comparable to just a CBH.

You can make the CBH quieter by adding a Turbo Air Guide III to the system and it will help to get even more cool air into the engine.

Car_nut57, when will the CBH be available? I ordered and paid for one through nwtruckworks.com last month, but they are telling me it is still on backorder.

That just feels wrong... spend money on something that makes more noise when you want quiet and then spend more to quiet it back down. I do appreciate the idea though. I still have some skepticism on the TAG after this thread
