For school aged kids August really bites. By the time August rolls around, they've played all the toys and games and boredom sets in. Then they start ragging on mom and dad for something to do and then they don't want to do what is suggested. Let's help out the kids with some ideas of fun stuff to try.
I'll start off with something small, but it's really neat to do.
Have the kids chomp on a big wad of bubble gum for a while. Let them blow bubbles and see how big they can make them. Tell them to compete to see who can make the biggest bubble (it's important that you let them organize and do all of this on their own. After all. . you want them to quit bugging you for a while).
Once the flavor is gone from the gum, it's time for the fun to begin (You have to be sure that all of the flavor is gone, or what comes next won't work).
Now tell them to add a half of a teaspoon of salt (kosher salt works best) for each chunk of gum thy are chewing to their mouth and chew it into the gum. Don't swallow any of the juices that form! Once the salt is dissolved and mixed with the gum, have them compete again.
The salt will make the bubble real strong and allow them to blow bubbles that are twice as big as before. To make it even better. . the bubbles won't stick to anything, so if they get popped in the face, they can just peal it off and chew it again.
Have fun
