Thanks to Rip and Robert at Source Automotive I now have a Cool Twist Turbo installled. Oo.
I ran a 12. 97 with a 1. 76 sixty foot time at Medford, OR. This was leaving with 14psi of boost, and the comp box on 4x5. I normally run 13. 50's at Medford, with 1. 9 sixty foot times. The temp at the time was 102 degrees. This friday night I expect to drop at least another tenth off that time. I messed up and didn't set the damping on the shocks right (Rancho 9000's), and was getting a lot of wheel hop. I didn't figure it out until the next day.
My first pass surprised me, when I was staging. I normally turn on the pre-stage bulb, build boost, and then stage. This time the boost started to build normally, but when it got to about 10 psi, it went right to about 25psi really quick. When this turbo spools, it builds boost in a hurry. After a couple of runs I got it so I could build boost without going to high. I have the wastegate set to 48psi (this is about 12psi more then what I ran with the Dodgezilla). The boost coming up so fast on launch is part of the reason for the 1. 76 sixty foot time. The boost increase from 14psi is much faster with the Cool Twist, then it was with the Dodgezilla.
Oh, yeah... This thing is a kick in the *utt to drive on the street too. Driving it on 1x5, feels like 3x5 used to. The way the boost climbs with each gear shift, makes it feel much more peppy. One thing that does surprise me is that it is actually quieter then my Dodgezilla without the silencer ring.
This is a performance turbo, and it will bark. It seems to like being driven hard. If you back off to quick, then it barks. I would trade this any day for the quick spool up, and the way it drives. I live at 4600', and work at 4200' altitude. It has been in the high 90's here this week. Having a large quick spooling turbo has been great.
Thanks again to Rip and Robert.
