Hello,

I have a 1996 Dodge 2500 CTD with the auto transmission. I was wondering if anybody has ever plugged the by-pass hose? In the manual it says its just for removing air from the system. theres a one-way check valve that opens but with the engine running its closed letting all the coolant go through the t-stat. I feel the hose and its very hot. Iam wondering if the check valve is stuck open. I live in alberta, Canada and winters are cold. I was wondering if i eliminate this if it would bring my operating temp. up a bit??

Thanks.

I doubt it, that hose is pretty small. If you aren't towing you can remove your fan for the winter. If that isn't enough block the radiator, starting with a small area and progressing up until your engine gets to the desired temp.

I wonder if you can make something like this to help?
