I have a new 04, 3500 and the darn dealer didn't order it with a block heater... . something that should be standard, or at least all my other trucks have them as standard... . anyway.....

I need the coolant flow through the heater core..... does it run from the head to the heater core... . and back to the connection at the lower portion of the block... .

or does it run from the lower connection of the block through the heater core, back to the upper connection at the head... .

If you know or have a service manual I'd sure like some insight without pulling the hose and starting the engine and pumping the coolant all over the place...

Thanks...

Heater core flow

My shop manual shows the flow coming from the fitting on the head going to the core and returning back to the block. This looks like it takes some of the coolant that passes up the cylinder wall cavity and sends it to the heater core.

Also there have been some posts about the facts that the 04 engines have the heater in the block but don't have the power cord that connects up and gives you the plug next to the radiator installed. The option of the block heater on my 04 3500 was less that 10 dollars.

I haven't looked at mine close - but if the lower tube ends at the water pump housing (inlet) - the flow will be from head to the pump.

If the lower tube goes to the side of the block somewhere in the middle - the flow will be from there and return at the head.

I'll take a look at lunch.

Your right... the truck has a heater but no cord... Went to my friendly dealer this a. m. looking for one after I checked to see that the engine has the heater installed.....

Cord is on national backorder, dealer said at least 2-3 weeks... .

Everyone must have found out the same time I did, I tired to plug it in last week in Edmonton Canada and it didn't have a plug. .

Does anyone know if its (the plug) is available in the aftermarket...

Thanks guys...

YES!

Got a replacement heater and cord from my local Cummins dealer. Didn't even call Dodge, as they are too high$$$. Try it!
