In issue 35 I read about the coolant flush and noticed a couple of things that may not be the best things to do (Not out to offend the author here, just some advice). The first thing that I believe could be a real problem in the making is the use of de-ionized water. In speaking with the chemist at my company where we use ionized water in a propriatary process, he stated that de-ionized water is basically electrically active (molecularly) and would cause quite a problem with electrolysis in your cooling system. Big problem especially if you have aluminum and steel parts together.

The second item I would like to warn everyone about is using tap water in your cooling system. I made the mistake of using the well water from the farm an ended up replacing all of the hoses because they were leaking under the paint. Seems the metal corroded under the paint in the steel lines. Never thought it would do any harm, but after four years of service it really made a lot of work!!!! Just some advice IMO.

Both good and valid points Hemi . DI water is much preferable to tap water, but distilled is the way to go. I did the flush on mine with distilled water too just to be sure.

DI water will kill? Gee I guess that is why everyone at work is seeing double!!! Have to get the stuff out of the water fountains!!! Seriously, though, I too took the extra time to go to Wallymart and pick up several gallons of distilled water when I did the hose change a few weeks ago.
