I guess #3 is with the Diesel?
#1,2 &4 are Gasoline
#5 is your undiluted Sample.

Did I win? :D:rolleyes:

About 30 minutes. You are correct with some and incorrect with some. Here they are after a bit more than an hour. Want to give it another go?

Give me a time lapse as to how long the oil was on the medium.
What did you use for the medium?
Did you make sure you let three drops flow from the dip stick?
The time and the process is important when you do this type of quick check. As opposed to something like Blackstone.
Interesting photos.

No, just one drop from the dipsticks. I posted the times. I large drop of the fuel/oil mix from a cotton swab. The paper was common printer paper. The point is there isn't a whit of difference in the spread and total soak-in time of any of the oils. If you think the quantity, time and process really makes a difference I'd love to see your results.

Wait - that is ordinary printer paper?
I always said it must be blotting paper - that's an entirely different material.
On printer paper this test is worthless.
Wasted time.

But thank you anyway for your effort, I appreciate it.

If someone believes the procedure enough to buy special blotting paper, I'd love to see the results. A quick internet look shows all kinds of "blotting paper". When I hear the term blotting paper I think of quill pens. So, please show us the results of your test since mine is "worthless".

Your link involves a lot of interpretation, special lighting and some chromatographic paper, not to mention a lot of time. Not a simple "pour a couple drops of oil on a sheet of blotting paper". Notice the last step "Send oil sample to laboratory for exception testing if necessary." Should be the first and only step.

Exactly, it's a far cry from a few drops on the magic paper, then you wind up doing what equates to a quasi OA on the paper.... I think using the basic paper was fine for this example.
