Help!
After shutting down at work yesterday (about 5 degrees outside), steam/coolant came billowing out from under the hood. I popped the hood... seems to be coming from the rear passenger side of the motor!? Leaked about 1/2 gallon, then stopped. Drove it to the dealer, no leak. Dealer claims they can't find any leaks, even though the see the antifreeze all over the engine compartment. I searched the forum for this, and it looks like the freeze plug under #6 might be the culprit.
So here are my questions: Has anybody every seen an intermittent leak like that? Doesn't the normal heating cycle put enough heat and pressure on the system that any leak would be apparent? If it isn't, can they just put the system under pressure from a compressor and watch with their beady little eyes?
If the freeze plug is the problem, do I trust the dealer or get this to Cummins? The thought of the dealer taking the head off or just banging away on the freeze plug makes me cringe.
Thanks!
