I fired up my old 96 and stepped out to clean the windows. I noticed something leaking. It turns out to be coolant, coming from some sending unit (?) on the forward passenger side , up underneath the exhaust manifold and forward of the oil filter. Sound familiar?

There is no sending unit in the area you describe, certainly not one related to coolant.
It seems to have a plug (electrical) going to it and and it definitely has coolant coming out of it. I can't get at the shop manual now. Thank you. I'm stumped on this one.

Unless something’s been added to yours, the only thing electrical on that side is the AC Compressor. Oil pressure, coolant temp, intake air temp are all on the driver side.

Whatever that is it's been there from birth. I will get a better look when I'm not standing in the sun at 102 <LOL>

It's coming from the silver knurled thing. I was wrong, it's aft of the oil filter and not an electrical connector but a tube. I think it is the oil cooler.

Depends on the year, from 1996 Service manual. I had one.

Yes, as the picture shows, it is on the left rear of the block. Not the right front where the OP has a leak. When I looked at the drawing I misinterpreted, thinking the fuel filter shown is an oil filter.

The oil cooler assy is what the oil filter mounts to. What you have pictured is the block heater. The silver knurled thing is the electrical cord connection. The new ones angle down from the heater and have a hexagon nut. Ours stick straight out. https://www.genosgarage.com/product/heater-cable-fl/winter
Okay then, so the o-ring probably failed then. I'm hoping if I take off the turbo hose I might get my arm in there. Thanks.
