how constitent should the level be? i drained the radiator last week and filled the radiator up and filled the reservoir to the full mark. i just check the bottle at the truck stop and the level was down about 1-2". could this just be a variation in the temp from the time i filled it up to the time i checked it?

TIA.

Hey Scott, I drained my radiator about a month ago thinking I had a leak. I did not find anything. Upon filling things back up I simply filled radiator and let it idle for about 20 minutes. Then topped everything off and went on my way. Several days later I checked the overflow and it was EMPTY. Popped off the cap and the level was down. I filled it (overflow) and watched it daily. The level swung hi then lo. After 4 or 5 days the level stabilized and has been steady ever since.

On another thread it talked about bleeding off excess air in the motor when you drain the system down. I guess that mine bled down on its own. First giving me the empty overflow, then the hi and lo level, and finally stabilizing.

I would watch the level closely, and as long as you aren't loosing you should be good to go.

Good Luck

Jim

shendren,

The cooling system probably expelled some air in the system after engine warmed up. After the engine cools down the cooling system wil draw the coolant out of the bottle to replace air that was burped out.

:p

Just check if more often for your piece of mind. :D

If it keeps using coolant then start to worry. :(
